    3rd Gen T4R Picture Gallery - Vol 2

REbuilt ( engine .trans. frame.etc) @ 272, its running well again! BIG KUDOS to GearHead Engines and their "henco en Mexico" 5VZ reman, its purring along like a kitten. Great oil pressure. Should live long. Decided to buy this 4RNR off my kid when it popped a head gasket. Careful what you wish...

Why don't replacement pads fit my 99's calipers?

Like i said Charlie i took a"pot shot" on 05 Tundra pads, and those Ake pads fit perfectly. Brakes feel good! Will be better when i get shoes/bleed.front hoses on, no doubt. THANKS ALL! restored at 272K, now i am ironing the kinks out. Including a nasty oil leak i caused on the reman henco en...

1998 4Runner front brakes rotors making me crazy!!!!

VA98, to olerunner's point...i never had any issue with the brakes, or my son before me , yet come to find out, my 99 does have the Tundra upgrade. My Akeono 438 pads were way too small when i went to freshen them up this weekend! SO i ordered up '05 Tundra Ake's @ Napa. Yup. Them's the ones...

Why don't replacement pads fit my 99's calipers?

well Wayne, i sort of did " ready FIRE! aim " deal and saw the local NAPA had a set of Akebonos in stock for an '05 Tundra ( not Tacoma - DOH!) , and they will do the trick! I cannot tell from your pic exactly, but it looks like a 199mm setup to me. THANKS ALL! Still not super happy with the...

Why don't replacement pads fit my 99's calipers?

No my son bought this one a few years back, lost a head gasket, and i rebuilt it. It has large wheels/spacers/lift kit so I SUSPECT a prior owner did upgrade the front calipers. The pads installed are literally .650" wider across the pin locations. i FOOLISHLY wiped the stencil off the one...

Why don't replacement pads fit my 99's calipers?

Folks, went to swap front pads using a set i picked up on clearance @ Rock Auto. Not fit. This on Saturday so i order a set of Akebonos from NAPA for Monday delivery so i can button it up. NOPE. Same issue. HELP! Where there two different sized calipers issued in 1999? The pads on it now have...

    Brake Boosters non-rebuildable anymore?

During a recent VERY LONG half-assed resto, the brake booster crapped out sitting for near two years. I "cheated" and bought and Ebay cheapie just so i could get the new running gear up and running. It was $100 or so. Saved the OEM booster thinking i could have it rebuilt or do it myself...

    Odd engine stumble.

WHAT spark plugs did you replace with> ? Dual strap as oem ? which if not could cause issue. PS I always check wire resistance when I play with them to ensure non are broken. ( which is easy to do )

    Engine Head Gasket / Cracked Head Repair (Toyota 3.4L V6 5VZ-FE )

surface finish! and Charlie's IF is a REALLY BIG IF! Newer MLS gaskets are a bit pickier on sealing surface finish.

    Driveline question: UJoint/DC/Tranfer Output?

PS Those nicely done OEM studs that surround that flange are no longer avail BTW. I found one where the knurling was beat up pretty good, maybe by being loose. PSS while swapping out ujoints in the forward shaft was easy, it was impossible in the main shaft. The double Cardon (?) joint was...

    High idle @ 2k

If CHarlie's vacuum diagnostics dont cure it, the Chi-com iAC is what i suspect. Test it. I know there is a test as i tested mine when i rebuilt the TB. PS my booster failed after sitting, and yes that will throw a code and make idle high. If you have no codes however, i suspect the IAC is...

How many miles on your 4runner?

rebuilt the powertrain @ 271,500 miles. Maybe could have just done the heads and gasket, but I wanted to drive this lil truck for a while so a reman "taco yota" 5VZ from Mexi, local rebuild on the Aisin box and SHAZZAM! Still needs front axle redone, but hope to see 500K over my ownership.

Aftermarket Ignition coil destroys the ECM.

Funny, when i replaced the coil packs with DENSOs and put the proper dual strap plugs in, it woke up the 5VZ. Prior owners had used whatever they found and single strap plugs. The engine bay even has a dual strap plug decal in it. DOH! OEM for sure!
