How to I determine what year an 5vz engine is and are there years to be avoided. For a replacement for a 99 4runner.

I failed the Ontario test 2 weeks ago . All 3 high speed readings. HC was 33% over,co was over 2 x the limit and NO was almost 4X the limit. Changed plugs(weren't to bad) and put a new cat on. The HC was now less then 1/2 the limit,CO was 1/5 the limit and NO was 10% of the limit. passed no...

Similar results on my first try at the smog test. NOx was 2082. Changed the cat(looked ok when I examined it after cutting it out) . The retest NOx was 60. This was on the high speed test. The cat I removed was not an original. Used a Magna Flow 51006 cat

My 99 just failed the NO@ part of the emmisions test. I ordered the 51006 to replace it. Will this be ok? They said to use the 51202 but is too short when I cut the old one out(about 1/4inch at each end to weld on to).
