    Greeting from VA!

Hello everyone. I finally got my truck after wanting one since getting my license (over 12 years ago). I got my '99 in mid-May with only 100k on the clock and running strong. I have since done some preventative maintenance to get everything in tip top shape before I slowly mod this guy...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

I ran into a couple of snags as this was my first major undertaking... but I would think that you could get it done in a weekend. You might be able to get it done in one day if you have air tools. Also, do some research and be ready to either build a tool to hold the Crankshaft pulley while you...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

This ended up being longer than I anticipated... Bill, Here is a link to the kit I bought on Amazon, it is for a 5vzfe engine: Timing Belt Kit Toyota 4 Runner 3.4L 5VZFE V6 (1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002) Also, I think the manual has the interval on the TB at 90k, but you will be fine...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

Finished! First of all: Thank you to all that offered ideas, thoughts or encouragement. This job took longer and was harder than I had anticipated, but I am happy to be done and to have learned so much about my truck in the process... So, the old tensioner was shot. Once I got everything out...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

Alright... I got back down to the timing belt last night (it was much quicker this time, ha) and found that my RH (passenger side) cam pulley was about 20 degrees left of its mark, but the LH cam and Crankshaft Pulley were dead on. This would explain the shutter/hesitation as the cam position...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

Ghia, Thanks. I spoke with a truck aficionado in the office and we basically formulated the same type of plan. I wont be getting back into this until Sunday when I break everything down again, and I will be getting the Schley Tensioner tool in the mail on Tuesday, so it will likely be Weds or...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

Well.. I cant really be sure if im a tooth or two off... but however far off it is, it's enough to make it run very rough (much rougher than it did before the change). Best Case Secenario is that I get in there and the timing marks still line up, then I know its 180 off, I turn the crank once...

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

Thanks, Whitson. I just replaced plugs and wires a couple of weeks ago, so they are all firing. I am hoping that it just is one tooth off from the slight slack on the DS of the Tbelt as I read in another post.

First Attempt - Timing Belt Change - Questions

So I am working on getting a 99 T4R in shape after buying it about a month ago. I did a bunch of research and read a lot of the different write ups on the job (as well as the FSM) and it seemed very straightforward.... I ordered a kit with all new idler and tensioner pulleys, water pump +...

    "New" 99 T4R SR5 - Interior Fixes

This is my first post as I just got my SR5 4Runner 2 weeks ago and have been spending my time fixing some simple things that the PO thought were expensive, so I got my ride for a great deal. (Filters, plugs and wires, cleaning, polishing and I will be doing the timing belt/water pump etc. next...
