    Rough Idle/Misfire after muffler replacement

I had my muffler/tailpipe replaced on my 2004 4Runner. The tailpipe was broken off where it meets the muffler. Before replacement the car would vibrate while decelerating. I thought it was the drive train but 2 dealership mechanics couldn't find the problem and thought it was unrelated to the...

    Noises after tire rotation/chassi lube

I have 90K mi on my 04 4runner 4x4 and had the tires rotated recently. I asked that the drive train be lubed in the process (6 zerks). About a day after the procedure, I noticed that the left wheelwell area would make a soft clunking noise when turning right. Likewise for the right side when...

    Oil consumption on V6

The dipstick issue has been brought up by others on this site. Seems to affect some V6s and not others. No matter when or how the measurement is taken, it reads high - as in a half in. above the full mark. Put in 5.5 qt at the oil change and after 6000 mi it's still well above the full mark...

    Oil consumption on V6

I have the dipstick issue where I get a reading far above the full mark on the dipstick after a 5.5 qt oil change. I use Amsoil 2000 and can extend my oil change intervals. My question to those that have a functioning dipstick and do extended oil changes - how much oil consumption do you see w/...

I can't figure out how to use the oil dipstick

You're not alone. I also have a V6 and have the same problem. There's oil well above the top fill mark whenever I take a reading. I thought perhaps the oil gets sloshed up the dipstick tube while running so I've tried taking a reading after letting it sit overnight. Pulled stick, got a high...

    General spark plug question

Thanks for the reply. I was told by someone on another thread that the discoloration is normal and is cause by oil vapors. He said he sees it all the time. I do a lot of towing so I'm assuming that is why mine have the discoloration and yours don't.

    75w-140

A guy at the local oil change place told me that the best gear lube for my vehicle would be synthetic 75W-140. He said it it is the best for towing apps, which I do a lot. However, I believe that Toyota calls for SAE 90 for the rear diff and 75W-90 for the front diff and xfer case. Would...

    General spark plug question

The plugs in question are the original plugs that came with the vehicle. I just recently replaced with the same Denso plugs. I confirmed that the new plug p/n matched the 3 Denso's I removed. Plug in pic is one of the originals. Anyone out there have have experience reading plugs? Is it unusual...

    General spark plug question

I have no car maintenance experience either but I think I have some mechanical aptitude. Check out the post by "the josh" for pics and description. I got the tools mentioned in his post as well as a torque wrench, anti-sieze grease and dielectric grease. Cost me $60 but it's still half what the...

    General spark plug question

I decided to replace my plugs myself after the stealership quoted me $120. Followed the instructions from another post (thanks josh) and didn't have any issues replacing. However, I have a question regarding the appearance of the old plugs. I have a V6 w/ 33K. I had 3 Densos and 3 NGKs. All...
