This is how I did it, pulled the fender up on top of the metal lip and it sat there the whole time, took me 30 minutes to install total.

The caps only work with the standard ball joint version, the uniball version remains open. Just clean the dirt out of the top of the uniball, let it dry, hit it with triflow. Easy.
