    Rusted out frame

That is my feeling too. I would rather repair it if possible and run it a few more years but only if it will be reliable and safe. I added a picture to the original post of the section that needs to be replaced. The other areas are definitely rusted, but not rusted through like that area...

    Rusted out frame

It's finally reach that point where I need to decide if I am keeping my old girl ('05 Limited V8 with 180k) or replacing her. I took it to the mechanic to get new brakes and he showed me the frame on the passenger side is swiss cheese. He gave me a referral to a welder / frame guy who gave me...

Help diagnosing a sound on cold startup - any ideas?

Installed the Slyfox kit over the weekend. Works like a charm. No more whine and caught it before catastrophic failure. Thanks much for the diagnosis!

Help diagnosing a sound on cold startup - any ideas?

Thank you AuSeeker and slyfox75! I have an email out to Jeff to inquire about getting a bypass kit.

Help diagnosing a sound on cold startup - any ideas?

The sound happens whenever I start it up (05 4.7L V8) and is coming from the engine area and lasts about 30 seconds. It sounds like some kind of pump whine. Any ideas what it could be and if it is an easy fix? Here is a link to a video of the noise: Video Sound

    05 fuel evaporative pump whine

My 05 has been pretty bullet proof, but it is starting to show some signs of its age. The issue I am having now is the fuel evaporative pump is making a whine for about 20 seconds on cold start-up (at least that is what I think it is). It goes off and there doesn't seem to be any ill effects...

    Brake Service

No pulling or poor gas mileage so likely no stuck calipers. Rotors feel ok when braking, no vibrations, and I don't see any scoring. Ok, to just put new pad on then?

    Brake Service

I have an 05 Limited V8 with 67k in need of its first brake service. The brakes are pretty soft right now unless I really step on them. Anyway, the question I have is just replacing the pads (assuming the rotors aren't warped) ok, or I am just throwing money away and will have to replace both...

Putting the red bumper lenses to use

I mean that regular bulbs are cheaper, not that the LED's look cheap! :headslap:

Putting the red bumper lenses to use

Not to kick a dead horse, but sharp4runr posted a link to this thread when someone was asking about ordering the pre-made lights. That got me interested in doing this again after forgetting about it for about a year. Anyway, the question I have is for those with regular dual filament bulbs...

    I'm freaking pissed!

Last spring I had some damage to passenger side plastic door cladding from some guys work truck who let the door swing open and bash into my 4Runner. You wouldn't think it would have done that much damage, but it was pretty deeply gouged. (The funny part is that when I came of the store no one...

    Never driven in snow-please advise

Funny how all the southerners are saying get chains, and the northerns are saying you don't need 'em (count me in that camp). More than likely the main highways will be perfectly clear even if it is snowing due to pre-salting the road and constant plowing. The only time this isn't true is in...

    4th gen. off road issues/?'s

Hey Falls, glad to hear you were having fun in the snow. I was one of only 3 people to make it into our office in Tosa on Friday morning. It is fun plowing your way to work through 12 inches of virgin snow in your 4Runner, just like being the first on fresh powder when skiing. Anyway, I...

Protecting leather from kids booster seats

I just put in the Prince Lionheart protector the other day. It has a tacky rubber underside (kinda like the rubber mats that go under floor rugs) to keep it from sliding around on the seat. It seem stiff enough that it will spread the contact force out to prevent indentations. The only gripe...

    New guy questions

Well I have a 2005 5 speed and have never had any transmission issues. Although I do have a V8 so maybe the extra torque/hp keep it from bogging down. And I agree 22mpg would be nice. 17 to 18 here as well, but again it is a V8.
