Help diagnosing a sound on cold startup - any ideas?

The sound happens whenever I start it up (05 4.7L V8) and is coming from the engine area and lasts about 30 seconds. It sounds like some kind of pump whine. Any ideas what it could be and if it is an easy fix?

It's possibly the SAIP (Secondary Air Injection Pump), if you haven't done the bypass, I would do it....or you can have the pump and related other parts replaced to have it all working properly...but it's not cheap to have done since the pump is buried under the intake manifold along with the starter motor.

Maybe if I mention [MENTION=8828]slyfox75[/MENTION] he will see this topic and stop in to give his opinion, he sells a bypass kit that works and it's not over priced like others out there, and if the SAIP is your problem it will stop the noise.

Yep, you got the "ole AIP whine".
You wont hear it on a warm engine, just first cold start of the morning....or maybe after work if its been sitting a long time.

Installed the Slyfox kit over the weekend. Works like a charm. No more whine and caught it before catastrophic failure. Thanks much for the diagnosis!
