You could run a bore scope into the cylinder and have a look at the pistons for carbon buildup.

My mpg is about the same as long as I am not in boost. I lose a little if I have to put my foot in it, but most of my driving is towing a camper.

You can take the old one to your local hydraulics repair and they can measure and match it.

Good info for future reference, Jerod! That reminds me of a spark plug testing machine that was in the automotive shop class in high school. We would play with it making it spark and then adding pressure until it would stop sparking. I never gave any thought as a kid that pressure could affect...
