Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

Hmmm. After pumping the parking brake a few times, it's gone back to silent. I noticed that the parking brake can swivel some in place. Is this a self-adjustment or something?

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

I put the rotors and wheels back on, and it's still grinding / rubbing. It's not as bad as it was, but it's still making contact. I did the full parking brake rebuilt, but with the stock pads since they look fine. When I take the rotor off, I can see the rusty residue left from where it makes...

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

I went ahead and rebuilt the driver side parking brake. What a huge pain in the ass that was. It was silent through preliminary testing. We'll see how it goes tomorrow when I put the caliper and wheel back on. As challenging as the driver side parking brake was, I think I'll go ahead and rebuild...

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

Without disassembling the parking brake, everything appears to be the same on each side. Everything is in place and seems to move correctly.

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

The passenger side seems to be fine now, but the driver side is still rubbing with the new rotors. The parking brake pad seems to be rubbing in the 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock area, but only for about a third of the rotor's rotation. This is despite having the parking brake star gear adjusted all...

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

It does seem to be parking brake related. When I took the discs off, the grinding sound goes away. The parking brake all seems to be in working order, but is rubbing for some reason. I dialed the parking brake back using the star gear and the disc seems to be spinning freely now. New discs go in...

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

I haven't yet. I didn't realize that was a possibility. I'm reading about it now and looking for a good write up.

Grinding from rear. Bad wheel bearing?

After a long road trip to Moab, my '03 developed an unpleasant grinding sound in the rear. It seemed to be coming from the driver side only, but now both sides make the sound. While driving, it sounds like grinding, but changes to more of a (hard surface) rubbing sound when I brake. I had...

How bad is this? I cut into my rear shock mounts.

Should I put the shocks on and drive to a shop or have them come to me? Just ask them to weld a new plate on? I'm not quite sure what to ask them to do.

How bad is this? I cut into my rear shock mounts.

Rear shocks were rusted into place. Accidentally cut the rear shock mounts while cutting the shocks out.

Where should I connect my new stereo's "dimmer" wire?

I don't think I used a harness. I gutted the JBL Synthesis, added new amps, ran all new speaker wire, etc. It was over two years ago, and it went through a few iterations, so I'm not 100% on that. Which wire is it on the stock harness? I could tap into that. edit: Thank you for the help. I'm...

Where should I connect my new stereo's "dimmer" wire?

This wire will tell my double DIN head unit whether to be bright or dim. I think there are a few options: low beams: good: autodim at night, plus manual dimming by turning on the headlights bad: the head unit may return to "bright" when I use hi beams autolights: good: autodim at night, won't...

    Wisconsin....

Anyone in the Milwaukee area with 5100s (even better if you have FJ springs also) willing to let me ride along in your T4R? I want to upgrade, but I've had mixed results with lifts in the past and would really appreciate the opportunity to feel the setup before committing to it. Thanks! Please...

Which Monroe Max-Lift or Strong Arm for rear hatch?

My tailgate is full of sound deadening and the shocks are old and worn in my 2003. According to JCWhitney, three models of Monroe fit our hatches: Monroe - Max-Lift Hatch Lift Supports - JCWhitney. Any experience with these? For me, the stronger the better (probably) because of the additional...
