    Soldier down

Interesting point of view, now you have me thinking. Several years ago on an offroad journey up the laurentian mountains, i pierced my radiator climbing a steep road, didnt see a fallen branch sticking out until it was too late. My friend at the time in his 4 runner towed me, we would stop every...

    Soldier down

Yes canada, unfortunately i live in a dense urban area and storing a vehicle to sell for parts isnt something viable. Parking spots are hard to come by and my indoor parking doesnt make towing feasible. That said, on reflection i learned a valuable lesson. Should have changed the timing belt...

    Soldier down

Mechanic called, said the timing belt broke and was able to turn some of the engine but it reaches a point where it completely blocks. Something seized up in there, not worth throwing money at an old car. As for hydro lock is was a dry day.

Hello, I’m writing this as a post mortem, the open wound still very fresh. My trusty 5 speed 97 SR5 4runner with 256,000 km is being scrapped and donated to a kidney foundation. On Sunday I started the truck, which had not been used in a week and was low on gas (no light yet, just ½ way...

    Strange Leak - with video

Hello, Here is the video 97 4runner leak - YouTube Not sure what it could be, a white cloudy liquid could be what exactly? I'm trying to understand before I take the car to the garage, in case I should retop liquid somewhere. P.s. I do oil treat my car every October & don't use it much. There...

    Wheel lock nut help

Hello, I lost the special lock nut that is used to remove the wheels. I just went to 2 different toyoyta dealers & neither want to help me, though they are more then happy to charge me $90 to change my tires. THe first one tells me that they can't order one, the second says that without the...

Oil leak on 97 4runner [Pictures]

Purchased new power steering hose from 1sttoyotaparts.com for about $500 shipped, taxed & dutied at border. Mechanic installed it in less then 2 hours. He also put an aftermarket catalytic conveter (mine was stolen last year). Runs with a bit more pep & that god aweful smell from the exhaust is...

Oil leak on 97 4runner [Pictures]

While i wait for the parts to arrive, I began removing the power steering pressure & return hose. THe part of the hoses that link with the power steering gearbox is hard to reach, how the hell do I get in there?

Oil leak on 97 4runner [Pictures]

I walked into Napa this morning too, after calling them and being quoted $288 for the pressure hose only. As the guy is finishing up the order he tiled the screen to me & i immediately noticed it was for the 2.7L engine ... lol Anyways Napa here in montreal doesnt seem to carry it.. which sucks.

Oil leak on 97 4runner [Pictures]

Thanks for the tip, I found a guy around my city that will do it. He has the tubes from the 3.0, and says they might be too small, or they may fit. New mexico is several thousand km's too far ;P

Oil leak on 97 4runner [Pictures]

I've called around, Napa, Carquest, Autozone even the dealer all want $800 for the pressure & return hose.... There has to be a cheaper alternative!!! Perhaps I'll remove the existing hose system & have one fabricated at a shop

The line is attached to the POWER STEERING reservoir, which is extremely low on liquid.

Power Steering leak on 97 4runner [Pictures] Hello, The V6, 1997 4runner sr5 has been parked outside for 2 days with a slow, constant drip of what appears to be oil, coming from the front. I removed the skid plate & found what I beleive is the problem, a rusted up pipe with a fracture...

Please recommend a locker for a newb

The ice thing wasn't the first time I got stuck. This summer, on my birthday no less, got stuck trying to escape from some wet sand that had dried out. Again, same problem with the open differencial. Then a few months ago, in clay only 1 of the back tires was spinning.

Please recommend a locker for a newb

Just to clear some things up Yes it a manual gear box Yes there is another (small) lever to switch between 4x4 or 4x2 Not sure what a good tire size would have been to put on. I just took the size from the previous owner (225/75/15) and narrowed it a bit for winter. If I put a locker in the...
