Wheel lock nut help

Hello,

I lost the special lock nut that is used to remove the wheels. I just went to 2 different toyoyta dealers & neither want to help me, though they are more then happy to charge me $90 to change my tires.

THe first one tells me that they can't order one, the second says that without the special code on the nut they can't order one. I wanted to slap the **** out of them, really its the easiest ****ing thing to do, they have the master sets im sure they can order one.

Anyways, is there a site or a place or anything i dont care where (canada / us) where I can send a picture and pay the $25-40 for the key? I love toyota 4runners but **** the dealers.

I messed mine up and went in there with it and they went into the back and brought me one the mechanics use, charged me 5 bucks for it. Seems to me they could match up which wheel key it was in the shop and then order one from there

DIY and use a socket that fits the size of your wheel locks.

I know that a lot of big tire shops have universal keys. I would have them pull the locks off and buy a new set.

I agree. The stealers aren't the only one's with the master set. Find a chain tire shop and slip them 10 bucks to remove the one lock nut on each wheel.

Yeah, that's BS. I've bought 2 from the dealership. The first time, the buy behind the counter took 4 or 5 keys out to my truck and found the one that fits (I'm pretty sure Toyota only made a handfull of different kinds). He sold me that one for $10 right there in the parking lot. That made me think they have several behind the counter and they don't keep track of the inventory.

You also might want to try a Lexus dealership. The 2nd time I lost it, the Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $49. The Lexus dealership next door said $29. When I went to pick it up, the guy at the Lexus counter just gave it to me.

Wheel Lock

Toyota has about ten different wheel lock Master Keys used on late model Lexus and Toyota vehicles. They can be ordered. The Keys are made by a company called McGard. The Lexus dealership here in San Diego charges $18.50 plus tax for one. The Lead Technician (mechanic) has a master set. When the vehicle is purchased new a postcard size card is placed along with the owners manual in the vehicle. This postcard will tell you what "color" your Master Wheel Lock key is. This color correlates to a number. You can order a duplicate through McGard or your Lexus / Toyota dealership. Most of these dealerships have decent customer service in the service drive that will take a master set and find what number it is and tell you. If this item is ordered, it can take ten working days for it to arrive whether through the dealership or McGard itself. If you know the color I can tell you the number.
