Ordered a new tensioner spring. Going to try to re tension and see if it helps. Engine runs great so I don't think its off a tooth or anything.

Pretty sure its purpose is to unlock and let the fan freewheel at higher speeds ( and lower )when its not really needed, saving power. When its gets hot a thermostatic spring or other device? will lock the clutch so it spins with the engine. When it cools down it will go back to freewheeling.

My fan bearing bracket ( or whatever its called...) cracked into many pieces without causing a fan ejection... just got noisy so I was real lucky!! I got the old one out and was inspecting the timing belt, it was done 8 months ago by someone else I hired. I can turn the upper tensioner...

I have had this same problem intermittently and only when its been sitting for awhile, like in the morning. After the first time I replaced the shift solenoids. It has happened since so that wasn't it. My fix is to just let it idle and warm up, then it shifts fine. Has happened to me 3 or 4...

I got one of these Bosa Exhausts at RockAuto.com. Less than $100 shipped, sounds way better than before. Bolts right up, no welding.

Check the manual for the adjustment! I was wrong you don't just tighten it until its not loose!! there is a procedure! Sorry about the misinfo.. I get that same bump sometimes when I start off from a stop. I think shifting hard when its been sitting awhile and cooled down is a common feature...

Mine shifts hard when its cold also, but shifts at a lower RPM unless my foot is in it. Check if the cable from the trans to the throttle body is adjusted, no slop when when throttle is closed. Mine was real loose and it seemed to shift better when I took the slop out.

I should of said " the best Free mod" . I would really prefer a 3.4 swap, but can't afford it at this time... So free and cheap have to do for now!

Adjusting the throttle cable on my 92 4runner has been the best thing I ever did! Much more power than before! I adjusted the transmission cable as well and the shift points are better also. A little maintenance to get the most out of an anemic motor, really helps. I noticed when I blipped the...

So far all I have found is the idle was too high so I adjusted it lower, and It was 1 quart low on fluid. It works fine again but I am a little nervous as if I have actually fixed it or not. Cheers :beer:

New bit of info: When completely warmed up goes into gear fine. I noticed since I had the new heads installed it has been idling much higher when cold, 1200 to 1500... this is why when put into gear it would really bang hard. I am getting a signal from the TPS so its working, not sure if its...

I found a "No Shift" troubleshooting flowchart and will attempt to figure out whats wrong tomorrow.

OK, I have a 92 4runner with the auto transmission. I had trouble last year with it not shifting properly intermittently... At a stop it would stay in 3rd gear instead of downshifting to 1st, or jump into neutral for awhile. I read the codes and replaced all of the solenoids. This seemed to fix...

I also just got rid of my 89 Bronco, and picked up a 92 4runner. Just about doubled my mileage!! My first Toyota and so far I am liking it! Cheers :beer:

Check the PCV valve. If its stuck it can allow buildup of pressure and cause seals to leak. Also that stop leak stuff can really slow down a leak if you don't want to fix it right away. :cheers:
