Auto trans shifting troubleshooting

OK, I have a 92 4runner with the auto transmission. I had trouble last year with it not shifting properly intermittently... At a stop it would stay in 3rd gear instead of downshifting to 1st, or jump into neutral for awhile. I read the codes and replaced all of the solenoids. This seemed to fix it. But lately when its cold it shifts erratically, bangs into gear, or sometimes won't go into gear at all at first. The fluid is nice and clean, the solenoids are new and there is no codes right now. So I guess the next step is a new trans ECU? Or is it a ETC? I heard that some years have them combined as one ECU and others have a seperate ECU for the Engine and a ECU for the Trans.

Anyone know if a 92 has a separate ECU for the tranny and where its located?

I just replaced the heads on this truck and now it won't go into gear arrrrggggg!

New bit of info: When completely warmed up goes into gear fine. I noticed since I had the new heads installed it has been idling much higher when cold, 1200 to 1500... this is why when put into gear it would really bang hard. I am getting a signal from the TPS so its working, not sure if its adjusted properly, thats my next step.

So far all I have found is the idle was too high so I adjusted it lower, and It was 1 quart low on fluid. It works fine again but I am a little nervous as if I have actually fixed it or not.

Cheers
