    Free: 3rd gen misc

Sorry there ended up being someone local for the whole lot.

    Free: 3rd gen misc

All gone, Thanks for getting that stuff! I swear I posted this a few weeks ago, but I can't find my post. CV axles, factory axles in need of boots and probably a repack: looks like it's about $50 per axle to ship to most places. 17" wiper 4-5 filters, drain gaskets, new OEM drain plug...

    Free: 3rd Gen CV Axles

Removed for ripped boots and replaced both axles with NAPAs. No desire to rebuild. Boots were ripped for some time.

    Best A/T for snow

Any dollar I put towards snows will mean lower priced A/T options. I'm not really interested in 2 sets of tires for a vehicle that sees 3-4mi/year.

    On the trail communication...recommendation.

Just so I'm clear. I think I'm hearing the options are: CB (sort of sucks,) FRS (no license, only slight better than CB) GMRS (license needed, but many products poorly made?) MURS (?) HAM (needs license)

    Best A/T for snow

I know dedicated snows are amazing, I have them on the subaru my wife dailies in the winter. My concern is my experience is winters really wear fast on hot roads. Given I don't drive much I may still heed this advice.

    Best A/T for snow

I've been searching and viewing old threads, but I'd thought conversation is good and maybe there's some newer tires worth consideration. So I need new tires regardless, and basically my rig gets about 1/2 it's miles getting me too/from the ski-hill. 70 miles round trip, pretty usual to be...

Getting ready to go off-road first time

So I grew up around 4wds but never really went offroad(well some powerline roads or forest service roads in a chevy luv and hiking roads in an outback, but that doesn't count), now I'm too old to go out unprepared, but still young enough to want to learn. So what should I check/do? I'm getting...

    Broken end-links

So I noticed a rear clunk after a recent road/campign trip and the rear end link is broke. Anything I should know/prepare for with this job (especially for a relatively rusty truck?). Also, I see Detroit axle 4-pack of end-links for $40 on Amazon. Seems like a good deal. Any reason to NOT go...

Anyone regret buying 255s over 285s?

This is the logic that makes me prefer 255s as my rig is my ski-vehicle and it's well known that narrow tires is better in the snow(better to sink in). We really don't need much float given the weight of our rigs. That said, I don't like that 255s only come in e-rated/10 plies. Our trucks are...

    Upper shock moves?

So I noticed a ticking noise from my front end recently and finally had a chance to look. When I rock the front end the small nub of the shock "stud" moves around in the upper strut seat when going through compression. The truck has spacers so I can't see much of the stud/bolt or nut/washer...

    How bad? Broken lbj bolt.

So for now it's been out of garage 10' with 3. I also noticed that the LBJ actually did have a hole in it. So I'll be taking it apart to do that. I'll do 4 new bolts at the same time. (I reused) I'm really finding the joy of working on a vechile which spent a decade on the east coast. Thanks...

    How bad? Broken lbj bolt.

Went to do my cv axles and as luck would have it one of my lbj bolts snapped in half upon removal. I'm going to try heat and drill or vice grip removal. How bad would it be to run three bolts temporarily? (Torqued and loctite of course) How much are the hub assemblies if I go all new? One other...

Maintaining a 3rd gen driven once a month?

Fuel shouldn't be a problem within 90 days. Riding a moto in WA that's a normal window. However my routine from motos was always: fuel stabilizer battery tender(moto batteries are notoriously weak though) change oil based on time (and other fluids, especially brake fluid) rather than miles A...
