    Oil Overfill/Leaking Oil

Any updates? If it wasn't oil dripping from your skidplate from previous oil changes also check around your engine bay for any valve cover gasket leaks, drain plug leaking, oil filter with bad seal or possibly double gaskets on it, or maybe your oil pan has a leak. What engine do you have?

    Goodyear Fortera TripleTred Review

Any updates? Hey Buckfever any updates on the treadlife of your GY Fortera Triple Treds? The reason I'm asking is because my GYFTT's are at the wearbars or 2/32's" on all four and less than 34,000 miles and not even three years old. Fellow T4R.org members please avoid this tire. Complete...

3rd Gen 3.4 oil change = pain in the A$$

I find the 5VZ-FE in the 3rd gens. a breeze to do an oil change on vs. 2UZ-FE. Try turning your steering wheel full lock to the left and get the oil filter through the wheel well. Proper positioning of pan is key to collecting the oil that drains when you remove the oil filter.

Ran out of gas with 1/4 tank?

Maybe try running Redline Si-1, Chevron Techron, Gumout Regane High Mileage, or Toyota branded fuel system cleaner. If you haven't had your fuel filter replaced I'd do that ASAP. From the midwest to the east coast on 18.5 gal. of gas I can cruise safely to 350 miles before filling up in...

    Doing a Tune-Up

I would add: -Check/replace (if needed) struts/shocks -Check/replace brakes and brake lines (1997 Limited 4Runner's brake lines were near failure and my trusty mechanic Bob tipped me off to their needing replacement ASAP) -Check/replace valve cover gaskets, spark plug gaskets, intake plenum...

    94 4runner 5w-30 vs. 10w-30?

If it were mine I would do several short 3,000 miles/3 months oil change intervals including oil filter change and run it hard during that time. My oil of choice would be any current API SN conventional or semi-synthetic blend high mileage 5W-30 during at least two of those short intervals...

    4Runner vs Sequoia

We have both We currently have a 3rd gen. 1997 2WD Limited 4Runner and a 1st gen. 2002 4x4 Sequoia Limited. Here's my take on them: Reliability: Tie The only major problems we've had were due to auto trans failing on both and having the dealer put in a reman on the Sequoia around 75,000 miles...

    Struts/Shocks

Try some KYB Gas-a-justs I've got a 97 2WD Limited w/ 150,000 miles that recently had its original front struts and rear shocks replaced with KYB Gas-a-justs all around. The ride is SO much more refined now. Over the years I've grown accustomed to the harsh ride over bad roads and now I'm...

    99 4runner shocks

I went with KYB Gas-a-justs I recently had the original front struts and rear shocks replaced with KYB Gas-a-justs and I love them. Prior to the replacement I had become accustomed to such a harsh, jolting ride especially over the slightest road imperfections, expansion joints, and pot holes...

Which Oil Filter do you use?

Any of these I use any of the following with synthetic oil for 7 months/7,500 miles if I run under severe conditions, if not 15,000 miles/1 year: -Fram Extended Guard -Bosch Distance Plus -Mobil 1 EP -K&N The Fram Extended Guard is so well built that it has 2 ply synthetic media that is...

M1 extended life syn?? Ne one used b4?

Try it Mobil 1 EP is XOM's best oil so I would use it with confidence. Run it with a premium extended-capable filter like: -Mobil 1 EP -Bosch Distance Plus -K&N -Fram Extended Guard -TRD You should be good for 15,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. Change your PCV valve & air filter...

For those hesitant about extended oil change intervals...

A forum member on BITOG (Bob is the oil guy) recently posted a used oil analysis for his 2004 Sequoia with a 2UZ-FE V8 that he did a 13 month oil change on Mobil1 Extended Performance and a Donaldson filter and get this: he accumulated 20,979 miles with 1 & 1/4 quarts top-off oil and his used...

I am considering extending oil changes, maybe?

Get your money's worth if you're planning on using a full synthetic. I would suggest 7,500-10,000 miles or 1year whichever comes first with Mobil 1 Extended Protection 5w-30, Castrol Edge 5w-30, Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30, or Amsoil SSO. All are stout oils which could easily handle once a year oil...
