For those hesitant about extended oil change intervals...

A forum member on BITOG (Bob is the oil guy) recently posted a used oil analysis for his 2004 Sequoia with a 2UZ-FE V8 that he did a 13 month oil change on Mobil1 Extended Performance and a Donaldson filter and get this:

he accumulated 20,979 miles with 1 & 1/4 quarts top-off oil and his used oil analysis was perfect. Blackstone, the company that ran his analysis, even boldly suggested that he could run it to 22,000 miles.

Right now I'm running Castrol Edge 5w-30 with a fram Extended Guard and changing it yearly on the 1997 T4R Limited 3.4 V6 and on my 2002 Sequoia I'm using Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30 with a Fram Extended Guard (Fram's best filter BTW and not to be mistaken for a Fram "orange can of death") also changing it yearly.

So for those on the fence about extending your oil change intervals just make sure you've got an oil capable of handling it and more importantly a filter with the capacity and filtration to go the distance.

:iagree: I am not sure I'm quite brave enough to put my money where my mouth is quite yet but I'm getting there.:lmao:

I will add with regard to the 1GRFE (4th gen V6) that the filter is incredibly important. Having read many used oil analysis it seems the 4.0L likes to produce iron at higher levels and is rough on the oil compared to some other engines. We had Frenchie's blown engine as a result of trying to go for a long OCI. It seems to me filter capacity was the main issue. I am currently getting up the courage to run a longer OCI. I'd like to be very comfortable with 10k intervals, which is not that big of a deal, I'm just too "old school":bash: I'm of the opinion with a larger filter 10k or 1year will be safe and achievable. I am reluctant to use a the OE sized filter for a run that long though.

I currently have Eneos synthetic in mine. I'll get an analysis at 6k. If it looks really good I'll bump up the interval to 7500 and so on...

Good luck on your extended changes (not that I think you'll need it).

I'm not sure anyone should be too quick to extrapolate to another engine from your linked example considering the 2UZ-FEs seeming immunity to anything less than stellar UOAs.
