I am good with meeting up anywhere the group wants, I am easy.
Looking at the USFS site it says some of the Horsfall area is flooded...so...confusion. Was just thinking a sand camp would be easy and only $10.
When we ripped around on quads back in the late 80's early 90's we went more north it seemed. Now looking at the maps it all looks foreign to me.
There is a Hauser sand camp too.

So unfortunately things aren't going to work for even a day/night run along this route at this time. Combination of factors between myself, son & others but if you do ANOTHER one please keep me in mind. I may even have to cancel Ouray, CO even cancelling my trip in August.
The important thing is the 4Runner is still doing great so that's not the issue. I greatly apprecaite beyond words on everyone thoughts and comments and do hope I can sometime get the oppurtunity just not working at this time.

Sad that you cannot make it. Glad to hear the 4Runner is doing well. I read your trip report on the Steens/Alvord Desert. I grew up out there on a ranch and went to the Steens often as a child. My grandparents used to run the hotel in Frenchglen long before I was born. I have to say you are a braver man than I tackling what you did out there that early in the year.
The first time my 4Runner broke down was on the top of the Steens. Fortunately it was an easy fix and we didn't end up stranded.
We will adventure with you again sometime soon! Hope things get better fast.

Just Checking In...
Just checking in to see how everyone's doing. Any forceable setbacks and what not.
I'm ready.
Aside from that...all is looking good.
Get some photos and video footage of yourselves getting your rigs together. I would love to put together a video of our trip and include everyone before we even meet. We can all work together to compile the footage after the trip.

- Just replacing a transmission mount. The transfer case was hitting my bud-built skids. Hoping it's the 17 year old mount that's bad.
- Replacing my PIAA 510 bulbs (H3).
- Fluids changed already.
- Went to a 3/4" spacer (BORA) to prevent my sequoia wheels from hitting the frame.
- Sprayed some more dry lube on my CV boots to help prevent them from tearing (notorious with 3rd gens with a lift.)
- Grabbing some pre-mix qt cans of gas/oil from Stihl for my chain saw.
Aside from that...all is looking good.

I been busy getting ready.
New front bumper is done and installed.
Tranny fluid exchange for new synthetic
New dual core tranny cooler with fan and routed through the factory cooler again. (new radiator not worried about the milkshake)
Washed the 10lbs of mud out of my radiator from my last wheeling trip.
To do:
Drivers side CV shaft (torn boot)
Extend boots so they don't tear, but I am interested in this dry lube solution.
Putting in a tranny temp gauge because I don't completely trust the Scanguage.. and want a more real time reading.
Figure out a tablet mount...??

That is my list lol.

Edit, and I did a radio check with the geriatric 2m group that runs the air down here. Can't just get a radio check, they want to ask you 100 questions and engage you in conversation. Look man, is my radio working? That's all. I don't want to discuss how to build an antenna out of old mattress coils.

Text me. I have everything you need to temporarily mount a tablet. I had two come in from Amazon and I missed the return date by a few days. I DONT have the Ram X Grip for a small iPad like mine. I do have the Large Tablet mount BUT I forgot to order the attachment for it.
Cut out a piece of wood the size of your tablet. Clamp it, zip tie, duct tape it whatever to the long pole attached to the floor by a single bolt on the passenger seat. Secure the tablet mount on ther with two bolts and nuts and you're in there for this trip. Here's the pics but text me. Heading out for dinner in a bit.
BTW I love my setup. Used it for the MOAB trip and it's pretty awesome.

I have been doing a few maintenance things, motor oil, rear diff fluid.
Did the front and transfer just recently.
Tracking down a couple squeaks.
Rear bumper is starting to act up. The aluminum 'hinge' section is starting to enlarge and movement damaged the bolts. Took me 20+min and a bolt cutter, a few foul words, to get that sucker off. Put some new bolts in it for now, will need to figure out a bushing/sleeve or something.
Now I am looking at this clunk, cant keep the RCI skid bolt tight on the upper rear control arm, driver side. It looks like it is starting to enlarge the holes in the frame a bit. The RED Loctite I use never got hard and almost looks like it acted as a lubricant instead...it is REALLY old and in the garbage.
Guess its back to OEM...or not.
Think I fixed it .
After looking at it closely, the frame mount has a slight outward bend at the bottom. The RCI skid was designed to that larger size.
When you tighten the nut it squeezed the top more than the bottom/welded section, like this.../ \. A large flat washer between the skid and frame looks to have solved this...so far. Will bring the OEM bolts just in case, glad it was not bad rubber bushing...dealer wants almost $250 for the driver side rear LCA.

Sounds like a plan. I will top off the night before at Wagon Wheel Grocery just a mile north of the Riley Ranch Campground. They have 92 Octane and are open from 5am to 9pm
