0-60 times for new 270HP V8 4Runner

The Car & Driver article (that ranks the 4 Runner 5th out of 6th for SUV's) provides the new acceleration for the 270hp 4 Runner. Keep in mind the best ever 0-60 times for the 235hp V8 was 7.5 from MSN, with most car mags giving it 7.8.

The 4Runner has some nice brakes!

#1 in braking 70-0, 170 feet.

The Touareg was 2nd with 189.

Tires make some difference, but 20 feet is a lot.

Truck got slower, the 03 V8 was suppost to be 7.2-7.4 from what I read, funny how it get slowers as the model years move on, I guess the 06/07 are gonna be running with the 3rd gen 4Runners:

I looked at the figures and was surprised by the time for the 60.

The figures I have are:

05 V8 03 V8
0-60 7.2 7.8
1/4 15.7 15.9
1/4 trap 88 85.6


I was surprised at the 0-60 difference thought it would be smaller, adn I thought the 1/4 would be bigger. My conclusion is that the 05 can hit 60 in second gear, the 03 just misses it. And that the 05 was either a weak sample or a brand new engines (03 was maybe a bit "looser"). I was expecting the 1/4 mile time to improve by .5 sec or more.

I have also seen the 7.2 second 0-60 time on MSN too. This really makes me feel good because a V8 BMW X5 with 315 hp does 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and our 270 hp 4Runner does it in 7.2 seconds. A few little adjustments and 30 more horses, we will be as fast as the FX45's, X5's, and Cayenne's!! :dancin:

MSN had the 03 V8 at 7.4, guess it varies on which model, would a loaded Limited be slower then an SR5 or is the weight not really that big of a deal

There are many variables that will effect your ET; altitude, temperature, humidity, fuel, track conditions/traction, tires/pressure, wind speed/direction, and of course the driver. The only way to get an accurate difference is to compare/run them at the same time, same place, and same driver.

In all seriousness tho, 7.2 to 60mph and a mid 15 in the 1/4 (I think there's a little left in that 15.7) is pretty damn quick for a truck as big, heavy, and capable off-road as a 4Runner. Back in the 3rd-gen days if someone would have said stock 4Runner's would be running to 60 in 7 seconds, I would have chuckled. That's much faster than all the little econoboxes that people think are hot-rods, AND it can tow your boat

Besides the optional "hemi", I think the 4Runner has to be by far the fastest SUV in it's class. I was just looking at a listing of all 0-60 times for the vehicles out there, and we could really smoke a lot of them! There are some luxury cars that are much slower than our 4Runners. Now, if Toyota bumps the horsepower up to around 290 in the future, we could be having 0-60 times in the high 6's!

Also remember 1/4 mile testing will always be different since conditions with weather and the track can make all the difference;those numbers could be reversed too so .2 is no big deal.

would changing to better tires from the stock dunloops (Revos) improve the 0-60 time of the v8 runner?? I ask because if the dunlops are weak on traction, and the v8's 330 pound feet of torque can overload it for a few tenth of a second, but i don't know if it can, but if it does, then a few tenths of a second's time is wasted on getting traction. Since revos have (allegedly) better traction on dry and snow grounds, then the v8 should be able to put it's huge amount of torque to use immediately??? maybe improve .2 seconds to make to 7 seconds flat in 0-60?

I don't think the v6 would benefit in 0-60 times from the tire upgrade because it's torque doesn't exceed 300 pound feet...

Tires make all the difference, I had Yokohama AVS street tires on my Pathfinder and that 170hp dog came to life with better rubber, on a roll I could take stock Si Civics, may have to do with all the electronics they overload the car with but a win is a win.

Im looking into getting the TRD 20's with summer tires, the stoptech 4Runner wheels look good but Im not a fan of aftermarket wheels:

So tires make a difference in 0-60 time for the 4r. But the issue is why??? Does it improve time because better tires offer more traction at take-off? Do the OE tires have less traction than the v8's 330 lb. ft. can fully use?? can anyone with revos throw in their experience in acceleration time improvement? no actual numbers are needed, i don't think anyone would time themselves, but just your impression, if you felt any improvement in acceleration because of the tires.
