01 with an 86 body? Need help identifying frame

That's nice looking, and judging by the amount of work that went into the body swap, an engine rebuild would seem like nothing.

Thanks. It is registered as an 86 with a "Rebuilt from salvage" title, it will be tested for emissions as an 86. Even if I had to register according to the motor, I'm sure it would be emission compliant to the 2001 equipment.

It will be a fun work/camping truck. It's weird driving it, feels like a 3rd gen driving but just sitting in the cab looking at the 2 tone door panels I feel like it should have all the characteristics of an older truck, not the tight steering, suspension and pep that it has.

Looks like the wheel base is a little longer on the 3rd gens thats why they cut the back of the rear fenders a bit?

The airbag certainly looks out of place with the rest of the retro interior, but thats allright. Safety first...

I don't care what anyone says- 1st gen body on a 3rd gen frame and drivetrain sounds awesome!
You get the cool old school Toyota look, the top down cruising- with all the reliability, handling and power of a 3rd gen!

Maybe there's a 3rd gen body on a 1st gen frame out there somewhere... Though I would probably go for this one because of the engine.

I never knew anyone else was interested. The photo is up on the hogback behind my house looking down on Hoorsetooth Reservoir on one side and Fort Collins and the plains on the other. Let me know if you ever come up!

Yep, that's exactly right... good eye. I want to take off the sway bars and get it at full flex to see if everything clears- looks like there is plenty of room though.

I'd assume the 3rd gen with the additional electronics, wiring, safety enhancements.

The first gens didn't have much structure in the doors, it wasn't until 96 that they started putting door bars in them.

yup, 3rd gen would definitely be the heavier one.

So make sure you don't get too heavy of a spring- actually contact KellyJ, he's scrapping his light springs for something heavier, you might make out on the deal!

So can you post more pics? I would like to see the back seat and cargo area. I havn't seen much of the first gens, and this thing looks so cool.

This thing would look so good if you painted the interior a better color. I know there is a thread on here somewhere of a guy that painted his entire interior black.

The more I think about it, the more I want the removable roof. And are those the 1st gen seats, or 3rd?
