02 4Runner Questions, Deal or No Deal?

Hello, I am a long-time Jeep driver (Cherokee-->Wranger-->Grand Cherokee) who is thinking about making the switch to a 4Runner. I have been reading this forum for a couple of months now and in the mean time been searching for a deal on an used 4Runner. Well I think I found one and wanted to ask some questions before I purchase.

First of all about the deal: 2002 Black SR5 with 34K miles, cloth, no sunroof, but nice for $16,500. From what I have seen this seems like it is almost too good to be true, any thoughts?

Anything I should look for it terms of potential issues, etc.

i bought my 01 4runner for 500 more and 77k miles

it seems a little too good to be true but dont turn the other way as it could just be a naive seller and he doesnt know its value.

id get a mechanic to look it over in my opinion. Make sure everything is in working order.

if its good id buy that in a heart beat with those miles.

I know, I have been looking for awhile now and couldn't believe the deal.

It is at a dealership in Cleveland (about 2hrs from me). According to this salesman (I know), it was owned by an older woman who leased it and just recently leased a 2006 4Runner. The dealer has every single service record, the original window sticker, all documentation and it includes the powertrain warranty for another year.

I would love it if it had a sunroof, but at this price and those miles, I don't know if I can pass it up.

if all records are clean id really go for it dude.

Drive it a lot and get accustomed to the vehicle to see if it really does feel like a smooth ride.

There is a 2002 with 68k miles for 19995 here, red, 2wd and no sunroof.

pretty exp to me.

an 02 with cloth and no sunroof = base model, so 16,500 is a reasonable price, albeit a very good one.

That is a good price. I'm going to assume it's a 3.4L and it doesn't have the "Sport Package" for that price. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)With that said, is it 2WD or 4WD? Does it have 15" or 16" rims? What kind of shape is the body in, i.e any dents, dings, or scratches? Has it even been wrecked? Not sure what part of the country you live in, but check underneath for rust damage. Sometimes the above mentioned factors make a diff in price. If everything checks out and the truck drive goods, get it. I'd be all over that for that price and milage.

It may sound stupid, but sometimes Dealers don't know what they have 'til it's too late (insert joke). I bought an '02 Sport 4WD about a month ago w/ only 22K miles in flawless condtion and walked out the dealership with having only paid $20k for it. I've seen the same truck sell for $28k in other parts of the country. Crazy, but people pay it. Good luck w/ your search. I'm glad to see a Jeeper leaving the dark side!

Yeah, it is a base model. I believe it has the 16" rims. 4WD.

No "Sport Model" and yes to the 3.4L.

I don't know about the condition as I have yet to actually see in person but according to the owner (car lot salesman), it is in great condition and as I mentioned driven by an older woman for 3 years on a lease.

It is in Cleveland, so rust is a concern, but I will check it out.

it has to have the 3.4 since the 4cyl was discontinued in 01+.

looks like a good set of options... go check it out, if it drives well then scoop it up

yeah I couldn't remember if a few of the 4 cyl engines carried over to '02 or not.

no the sr5s could have the color keyed flares and bumpers. just not the sports hood, better suspension, and whatnot that the sports had.

edit: they didnt have color keyed bumpers but they did with the fender flares

base model sr5s had chrome bumpers during 02.
