I was suprised to read in the prob. and warranty forum, the number of issues w/ 03s and 04s. But, someone brought up a good point in another post. "You can't expect all the people who have not had issues to post messages about how great their T4R is." So, now is your chance. If you have an 03 or 04 and have not had any issues let everyone know! How many miles do you have on your T4R. If you have a story about how your T4R impressed you let us know about it.

Hugh, I agree that the new 4runners are high quality vehicles and you get a lot for your money. I have not had any warranty issues and have over 13K miles on my 2004. I'm glad I got a new 4runner rather than a 4 year old Landcruiser that would of had around 60K miles on it for the same $$.

i have one of the early model 03 v6's which are supposedly problematic, but i have no problems so far. i've only taken it to the dealer once for a recall on something fuel related. i have the sulfur smell, and there is already a fix for it, but it's not bothering me THAT much, and i'm nervous about bringing it to the dealer.

I think you have to define what you mean by having no issues.
If "no issues" means not having to bring your 4Runner back to the dealer for a serious problem, then I can include myself in this thread.
However, if "no issues" means absolutely no issues at all, then I'm definitely not included. Little things that are appartently normal like the brake pedal tap and hard shifting under light acceleration are annoying issues in my book.

Other than some minor issues with campaign issues (a seat problem and the sulphur),which were both addressed at one return to the dealer, no issues. I have 7100 miles on my 4Runner and "knock on wood" I have had no major issues.
Some minor issues that I wish were not there are the mpg computer issues, no electrochromic mirror, and the damn window lock button (almost a trip to the dealer to get the rear window up):bash:
My other car has 48,000 miles and has been at the dealer for $500+ warranty work every 7-10,000 miles since I bought it.

My Cat still smells. When the kids get too loud, in the back, I lower the window and they pipe down just before vomiting
4,600 miles.
Only warranty work was a wheel lug that sheared off when the tire/wheel was being hand tightened back on after repairing a screw in the tire. Took it back to Toyota and was repaired in the same afternoon. No further problems. Just cam back from a long drive to San Diego and back to Northern Cal. Freeway, bumper to bumper traffic, interstate, all fine.

Nothing major
1) Sunroof rattle fixed with the TSB
2) Failed JBL 6 disc headunit (not really Toyota, but they selected that supplier), no sound output. Replaced.
3) Sulfer smell, yes it's there but not as bad as when it was new. I tried to get them to fix it but I get the lazy tech "couldn't duplicate problem" response. Screw it. If they're too lazy to fix it, I don't want them mucking with it then.
4) Front brake rotors turned under warranty. I suspect they overtightened the lug nuts at a 7500 mile service, but no way to prove it of course. It started having brake pedal vibration soon after that. Good news is it's fixed and they didn't have to remove much from the rotors.
My truck was built after the fuel rail safety recall, so no issues at all with that. That was a Toyota voluntary recall BTW. Not an NHSTA mandatory recall.
Nothing has broken and left me stranded, And I have had minimal time at the dealership compared to my last vehicle (Oldsmobile). A couple small squeaks that only I can hear, and I am eliminating those slowly but surely from the headliner (fixed it by tightening the "oh sheet" plastic cover screws) and the driver door panel. Next weekend for the door panel, tighten every screw.

30,000 kms with no problems worth mentioning. Although there have been a few warranty things I've had fixed up, they were quite nitpicky, and I doubt I would have given them a second thought on a lesser vehicle. Worth a note that a portion of my kms inluded towing a boat well in excess of 4000lbs.....truck never even flinched.

03 Limited V8 bought in January 03, truck is smooth and silent, only things I had done was front seat creaking TSB, and an alignment at 8k cause the front inside passenger tire was wearing, they charged me nothing to scratch all 4 rims
their where other interior noises but after 10k they settled themselves, no different then any other vehicles I've had, sulfer smell is still their but when I go for the 30k I guess their change out whatever and the rear clunk is gone after 10k and now by 20k it's nolonger around, just needed a wear in.
So for a score of 1-10 I'd give the 4Runner a 12 cause you really can't get nomore perfect, I've come across people at the dealers who make problems bigger then they are like.
