03 4.7 Exhaust...

So I finally did it, broke something on the T4R during my recent hunting trip up in Maine.

I was traversing a washed out bridge (small bridge that crossed a large brook). Both sides were built up high, and the bottom was dug out. I was impressed with how well it did to be honest, I was sure it would scrape the front/rear bumpers on its way in and out. The only thing that happened was the tail pipe got crushed at the tip. I didn't hear it happen, but it could hear the exhaust more after we cleared the obstacle. After taking a closer look I found that the tail pipe broke clean off right at the exit of the muffler, it was/is just sitting there completely disconnected from the rest of the exhaust.

Bottom line, I am looking at exhaust systems for the 4Runner. I want something with a nice growl when you put your foot into it, but pretty quiet when idling/going slow. I was wondering what everyone else has done for a system like I just described. Any deals that anybody has seen out there would be great too!

I've got the gibson catback and its all the things you wanted, but i have the v6, so I'm not sure how it translates. [MENTION=72341]NJshadow93[/MENTION] has it on the v8 though

No different with the V8 from what you described. Idles quietly, minimal drone on the highway, it wakes up when you rip on it though but it's pretty tame when just driving normally.

I have the Gibson as well. Love the way it growls but is quiet and relatively drone free. People say it sounds great and I love it!!

Is that for the aluminum or stainless? I paid about $390 a few years ago for the stainless which is usually $100 more than the aluminum (which was $290 at the time).

Yes, that's the price for the aluminized steel version, SS was $80 more. The T4R is already 11 years old. I figure I'll get 5 years out of the aluminized system...which is all I expect to get out of the 4Runner at this point.

I think I paid about the same for the Aluminized. Can't beat it for the price, sounds great.

theres arguments either way for aluminized vs stainless, stainless is obvious, its gonna last longer with minimal care, but if you don't mind spending a little more time spraying it off in the winter and keeping it clean, it'll last a long time, and is a little better on the wallet.

My post on the third page of the thread below sums it up for me. I did a lot of homework on this and ended up with the SS Gibson CBE. [MENTION=72341]NJshadow93[/MENTION] posted in a few places about this topic and was dead on. I couldn't be happier with it. BTW, it looks like you have good taste in year, model, engine, and color. :thumb:

I actually have another issue. Towards the end of the trip I started to hear intermittent squeaks (different pitch squeaks, some hi some low) from the rear suspension. Nothing looks broken, and everything seems in place.

I was thinking, I may just do every suspension bushing in the rear while I'm under there doing the exhaust. Has anyone done all of the rear suspension bushings, any suggestions? Should I be replacing any of the suspension components while I'm under there? FYI, I already did springs & shocks last year...so those should be fine.

Another vote for the Gibson system. I did buy the SS version because Wisconsin winters. Pretty tame at part throttle and on the highway but it has just enough growl when putting the foot down for people to compliment it.

You probably found the systems on Amazon like I did and before buying the exhaust I applied for and got an Amazon Visa card that gave me an instant $50 statement credit as well as 3% back on Amazon purchases. Not sure if they still offer the $50 credit but it's worth looking into

Guys, can you confirm that the 03 is the same as the rest of the gen 4 exhausts (4.7). I am being told the Gibson 18707 system is for 04+

I cant confirm whether it will fit an 03 or not, but I put a cat back Gibson stainless on my 04 V8 and love it!!!! AJUSA had a pretty good deal on them at the time.
