03 4Runner Audio problem

Just made an account on here to try to solve this problem I am having with my car audio. To start here are the specs of the car.

Pre-upgrade
2003 Toyota 4runner sport edition.
came with JBL audio speakers but no JBL headunit (stock toyota)

Post-upgrade
same JBL speakers
Kenwood double din headunit
Memphis audio 8in in place of old jbl sub. (still in wall of trunk)

now, after having this upgrade done by electronics express, I have noticed that turning the audio up to a loud, but not excessive, volume causes the audio quality to worsen. Sometimes I feel like im listening to a song from youtube through the speakers (if anyone can relate to that). Also around that level of volume the treble becomes to loud to listen to without breaking my ears. Turning down the treble does not fix this problem.

The upgrade definitely brought out more from the speakers but now this quality/treble issue makes me want to have the old toyota one back. Does anyone have any idea how I might fix this problem? I wish I knew how the guys at EE configured the headunit so maybe I could fix it; im pretty good with headphone audio but not car audio.

since you changed out the jbl sub to a memphis, why didnt you change the old jbl speakers at the same time? sounds like maybe they cant handle the new kenwood HU.

I thought that the jbl speakers were quality speakers that just needed a little more from another headunit. The reason i switched out the subs is because the old JBL sub had some problems.

Another thing ive noticed is that it sounds like most of the vocals and treble come from the very front and center of the car, if that helps anyone with diagnosing this problem.
