03 4Runner head unit

I just got offered a head unit for a 03 4Runner... Will it fit in my 98? Can swapping out the pigtails do or is there more that I need

It's just the head unit itself nothing else

You will most likely need to re-wire the wiring harness. The colors will also not likely match up right so it might take a bit of trial and error (and a lot of blown fuses) unless you can find wiring diagrams for you 98 and the 03.

Other than that, stereos are pretty much the basic single-din or double din setup. Might need a tiny bit of trimming but probably not much.

I had an '03 head unit in my 2000 for a few months. It was plug and play but the back light is orange not green like the original 2000.

I later moved up to an aftermarket unit.

If it is a standard non JBL radio and your 99 is a standard non amplified Toyota system it is plug and play as they both use the 1761 harness from metra.
