gas milage prob won't diminish that much... maybe 1mpg but if you're easy on the gas then you shouldn't have any problems. If you're gonna be gunning the 4runner all the time then believe me it'll suck alot gas! :) so expect atleast 2 mpg or so.

I won't be gettin the sc for awhile as I'm not looking at performance.

But I will be gettin a few things from downey though! :D

Downey Headers
Downey Intake system
Downey spring/shocks

That's pending as they're making em right now. The intake should be done within the next week or so. The headers will prob take the longest as the location of the cat is a concern from them as they need approval from CARB to see what they can do. Hopefully I'll be able to get them on there! :)

As for the exhaust, I dunno, if someone can fab one up, I'll be more than willing to test it out! :)

I'm already testing my 4runner for other mfg's anyway! (but they should be in the Los Angeles area though!)

4g's for a sc has a very nice price tag! yikes!!!!

Just some points to consider before supercharging your engine:

1. Premium gas is required. It is a must! MPG varies with use. MPG drops like a rock when you do use it!

2. Automatic tranny fluid should be changed TWICE as regularly. In addition, a tranny cooler is highly recommended.

3. Many people would recommend switching to SYNTHETIC engine oil when supercharging.

4. More noise! Whinning and whirring.

5. You may lose LOW RPM power (below 2000 RPM)...SC's are best at boosting MIDrange power...they are not good at the extreme ends (high and low). Remember, SC's is powered BY the engine...therefore, it is always PARASITIC to your engine's power, which you will notice most at very low RPMs and high RPMs. (On the other hand, turbochargers [powered by exhaust] are very efficient and good for high-end RPM power BUT do suffer from some degree of turbo lag.)

6. Remember that SC will likely not be very helpful in off-roading because you need to press 3/4th of the accelerator to turn the SC on (according to JacksonRacing Eaton-Root SCs; not sure about TRD chargers)...in off-roading, if you do that, you will spin the wheels and lose traction! Power is not linear in that circumstance (because most of the time, you are not flooring the gas pedal).

7. Although argued by JacksonRacing & TRD, all force-induction system (turbos and SC's) will cause more wear-and-tear on your drivetrain. That is a given.

8. Of course, there can be many problems after installing the SCs...just read http://www.gadgetonline.com/4Run.htm

In general, i am not a big fan of superchargers. I prefer displacement, especially in an SUV/truck. Since the '03 4runners already have powerful engines, i don't see SCs as a needed thing. There is no way the 4Runner will keep up with an BMW X5, even if it can accelerate the same. 4Runners are made for all-terrain adventure.

Just my opinion.
 
Ping Issue resolved?

So is the ping issue finally resolved in the 3.4L superchared vehicles. I'm still wanting one but thought I'd wait until they had a fix of some sort. I'm getting my hopes up now. :confused:

for the Level 10 modification. This mod has helped resolve that issue in many supercharged 4runners. However, i still think that some owners have this fuel ping despite the level 10 mod.

With super/turbocharging, inevitably, your engine will wear out faster. More things to break. More things to give you a headache. More money to spend down the road.:(

I read that link, but it seems like it's for the old 4Runners and the old supercharger, anyone have problems with the new ones??

Is there a way to add an intercooler to the mix??

So, stock is 235hp and 325lbtq, what's the sc put the '03 4Runner up to??

The new gen superchargers sound pretty promising, what do you think? Sounds like with the fuel mapping they managed to reduce the pinging problem (in conjunction with running an extra injector!). . .

The aftermarket SUCKS right now for na applications on this 4.7L setup. . .and for $4000, this seems like the best bang for the buck. . .:rolleyes: any ideas??
 
If you really want some power there are other options:

1 > Custom Turbo Setup (usually runs around 3000-3500)
2 > Nitrous Setup. (Much cheaper than turbo. get wet system and avoid the dry system for high hp gains)

Other than that, you can wait patiently I guess. Headers should be out soon by various mfg's and as you already know people area already getting exhausts on their 4runners now. Air intake systems should be available now.

Those things have been backordered for MONTHS!!!

AHHH! I'm going to wait on supercharging at this point, I'm nervous about the pinging from detonation destroying my barely broken-in engine. . .and with the Houston heat being the way it is, AND NO INTERCOOLER on an eaton roots (with the worst thermal efficiency KNOWN to FI), I'm sure it'll ping. . .
 
I would not recommend supercharging, especially on a '03 V8 engine. The ONLY factor that may make me consider supercharging IF you have a really good mechanic and trustworthy...and no, your local Toyota mechanic is not one of them! Superchargers/Turbos are VERY DEPENDENT on the installer...a bad installer can PERMANENTLY ruin the engine!

The benefit of the supercharger is good, but the potential headaches are too much. Why would you take a risk when your engine is smooth as silk and damn proven??!!

Another question to consider: is 0-60 in 8.0 seconds too slow?? Can the 4runner with it's body-on-frame, high center of gravity, and soft suspension (for off-roading) be able to handle more speed?? Better yet, is it wise to make the 4runner faster??

Just my opinion.
 
personally I'd pass on the supercharger but if ya need the speed, that's more power to ya.

The only recommendation I'd give is this:

- use premium gas all the time (no ifs and or buts - just one of those things when you want more power... better gas!)
- upgrade tires (that way you will benefit more from the SC)
- upgrade the brakes (although the stock should handle it ... safety should come first!)
- upgrade suspension (get some stiff stuff... or even lower it so the COG (center of gravity) will be better for the cornering for ya)
- maintain it like a baby... literally 3000 miles ( oil change ) and check belt constantly... it should be checked every 5k/10k miles. and the first belt should go around 20k.
- use better oil and watch the tranny oil.

the engine itself should be able to handle the SC as shown from the tundra/LC when the first v8 was announced w/ the SC. So no worries there but you should take extra care into it as you're into the high performace stuff!!

o yeah another note, get a better filter (amsoil) or whatever... stock is going to restrict ya abit. Also if you have the funds look into some decent exhaust (borla - recommended) and some headers (when they come out ofcourse).

In addition to what GoodTimes said, you should use SYNTHETIC oil and change your transmission fluid twice as regular (every 15K).
