Does anyone have info on changing the settings for things like the alarm default actions (One Click=All doors unlock), timeout=none, etc. Thanks,

Jason

Am I the only one having trouble making these changes???

I swear that I have followed the directions from that website and completed it in 30 seconds, but the truck never beeps or acknowledges that it has worked.

Do you guys have any ideas of what I could be doing wrong?
Jharris2- Are you sure this works with the '03 4runner Limited?

I have attached a list of items that can be customized. Unfortunately, it says a "hand-held tester" is required to make the modifications.
I have the programming instructions for the tester, but it was too large to post here.
I guess I will take these two documents to my nearest dealer and have them make the changes for me.

Interesting stuff. What manual is that from?

Isn't the tester a dealer-only computer? I think it's the same one needed to program new keys into the truck.

I'm not sure what manual those pages came from... a buddy of mine, who works for Toyota, sent them to me.

And like I said, I also have the "Customize Function Operator's Manual", but it was too large to post here (maybe our moderator can help me out).
It lists the following equipment as necessary for customization:
Tester
DLC Cable
DLC3 Cable
Diagnosis Program Card

I dropped off my truck this morning and gave them the two documents. My buddy suggested that I give them the operator's manual because this a fairly new procedure and they may not know how to do it. He was right. Anyways, I'm really surprised they don't have the truck ready yet, because I can't see it taking more than 10 minutes.

Note: The service dept. initially wanted to charge me for 0.5 hours of labor. I told them I would gladly do it myself, but the 4runner manual states that these various customizations must be performed by the dealer. So they backed down and said they would do it for free.

Update

Friday afternoon, I went back to the dealership to pickup my truck and the service tech told me that his service manager would not let them perform the customizations for free. He said they could do it but it would cost $41.
In addition, they didn't give me the documents because they said that it was confidential information. What ever.

Let us know if you guys have any success with your local dealerships.

I talked to the service manager at the dealership where I bought mine, and their position is that they will do the programming free of charge if you bought the vehicle there. Otherwise, normal rates apply.

Maybe they are service-oriented, or maybe it's because the service manager came from a Lexus dealership.

In any case, it would have been nice ifToyota had put more of these options under our control, and left things like programming keys to the dealership. I like to try, test, undo, etc. until it works just like I want it -- and driving 40 miles each way to the dealer through road construction for that is a waste.

settings changed by directions in manual:
What i found was each setting is toggled
if one is on you must turn it off and then
toggle the setting you want .
in other words if your doors lock when
the truck obtains a certain speed then
you must toggle that off before you set a
different setting. sounds weird but it worked
for me.

Which settings are you talking about?...are you referring to the configurations that I posted in the PDF?

4Runner 2004

I wonder if the rear window can be reprogrammed to operate both ways - window down as well as window up. I know that it was specifically designed to operate by remote on downward movement only to eliminate accidentally closing it while something (or someone) getting in the way of the window.

I just find it too bothersome to close it by inserting the key and switching the window down.

Thx guys had mine programmed by the dealer today.

So now all the doors unlock with first press of the remote. Doors no longer lock after taking it out of Park, but rather when the 4Runner reaches 15MPH. Also all doors unlock when I put it back park and the ignition is still on.

door locks and head lights

You guys can set the door locks yourself on page 18 and 19 of your owners manual (thats the page for the 04 v8). you have four different choices. I set mine to option B. Also the auto off headlights I believe are set to 30 min from factory. If you dont like it your dealer can change that or you can hit the lock button on the remote twice and it will turn off your headlights. Kinda cool with the remote.

These are called Customizable Body Electronics System, or C-BEST settings.

(Adding this note so a search for C-BEST or CBEST hits this thread.)
