03 Forester to 07 4Runner Sport

Hello all!

I have been lurking for a little bit over the forum and decided to introduce myself as a soon to be convert from my Forester to a 4Runner.

Before I make any decisions to purchase, I need to know if there is anything I should particularly look out for when looking at a 4th Gen 4Runner.

Currently, I have my eyes on a black 2007 Sport Edition with a little over 80,000 miles on it. V6, 4WD. I am going to look at it this week and test drive.

Here is a small example of what type of situations the vehicle and I will end up in together.

Thank you. I think the 4Runner and I will get along great. I've been hearing that even at high mileage they are very reliable. This is good news. I have 175k on my Forester and it hasn't had any major issues.

My goal would be to basically emulate the build that Dawg4Runner has done. It looks like it could get me into and out of some hard to reach places.

Be sure to test out the 4wd shifting while you're at the dealer, including the center diff lock button. If any of that doesn't work, it's a hefty price tag.

welcome! i went from a 99 outback limited to the 04 V6 4WD. let me say that a 4 cyl boxer at 280k to a torquey v6 was a huge step up. i find that my 4runner performs just as well in the snow as my subaru did, but youll soon realize that the 4runner sucks money out of your wallet way more than a subaru ever would! once you buy yours, stay off T4R, its a scam set up by toytec, shrockworks, CBI, and the like!

Mine was the center diff function. Shifted into 4Lo fine. Perhaps I'm just special...

I have to agree with everyone here and thats coming from a fellow Scooby enthusiast. The jump to a 4runner is gonna be great for your situation. I will say be ready for your MPGs to drop a bit but for the FUN to rise. The 4Runner by far has to be one of the most versatile vehicles on the planet. You will not regret it..

I did it! She's mine! 2007 Sport 4WD with 101,000.

Had to drive 3 hours to get it but it was all worth it.

My plans are to take a direction like Dawg4Runner has with his 08 build. I don't want to copy it completely, but I think he seems to have a pretty capable rig that looks great.
