03 V8 4x4 Slow itself down going downhill fast?

you will get a sulfer non pleasant smell when leaning on throttle with the rear window down. if your rear window is down you should really have all of them down. to vent.

years ago old station wagons, they had warning stickers not to run the car with the rear window down.

this rear window issue should be a sticky. if it isnt already?

I just bought an 03 V8 4x4 since I just moved to Colorado. I feel like I have to press the gas harder then a normal truck/car to make it go or it will just slow down faster than normal on me. The gas pedal is much harder to depress than my 2009 CX9.

I went way up into the mountains yesterday and on the way back I noticed I had to press the gas considerably to make it go downhill or I would just slow down. I would slow down from 65 to say 50 or 55 in seconds after letting off the gas going downhill on a 6% grade on I-70.

I know this truck is all time 4wd and thats almost what feels like is hanging up. The RPM's stay low, its not downshifting so I am assuming its the transmission or some sort or auto braking.

My other SUV, the CX9, the vehicle almost spirals out of control coming down the mountain and I am constantly hitting the brakes or downshifting.

Is this typical of the 4runner or is there something wrong? Thanks!

No, it is not normal.

I drive I-70 frequently and go past the 6 per cent grade signs every time. Letting off the gas, the truck maintains it's current speed, sometimes it even gains a little.

If you're slowing down that quickly, then something is wrong. You could check for dragging brakes by pulling over to see if one or all the wheels are unusually hot. You'd probably smell the brake pads if they are dragging that much.

After that, I'd check for transmission or differential problems.

my 2005 v8 has 265/70/17 at tires and a 3 inch lift. i lose speed going down most hills and need to keep on the gas to maintain 65. many times i can hit an up hill off ramp and the truck will slow down to 20 or so on its own by the time i get to the top. it has always been like this and i think it's rotten aerodynamics. at least in my case.
