03 will not start

I bought a 03 4runner with 70K miles on it yesterday. This afternoon, after driving 60 miles straight, I stopped and after shopping for about 15 minutes went back to the truck and it went: click Click click... tried it again, same thing. Insert curse word here. Had a friend come and attempted a jump. left it hooked up for a few minutes and then tried again. nothing.

Background: I had a mechanic look over the entire car yesterday before I purchased it. said everything was perfect.

So I called the dealer and they hooked me up with a tow truck and a loaner. the guys gave me a 08 328i. but nothing will happen until next year.

I assume it is an alternator. I really hope its nothing worse. Any idea how much how much it would run.

My guess is that it'll be fully covered. Was it certified?

Did you get any warranty with it? We payed a little extra for ours for coverage up to 100K.

We just bought our 03 V8 4X4 SR5 on the 27th. It also has 70K on it. Fruggin wierd.

no, its not certified. I felt comfort buying it because of the relationship with my mechanic.

I have until Friday to buy the extended warranty. hehe, if the fix is expensive, Ill buy it.

Sounds like an alternator to me.

Once on another car, the battery died when I turned it off, but when I jumped it, it was fine. It did that again one more time & when I jumped it, it was fine again. So the conclusion was it was the battery in my scenerio.

Don't know how much it would cost, however at the dealership, it would be more.

I would also suggest to have a diagnostic check on other things while you're at the dealership.

If that is the original stock battery the fix could be as simple as getting a new battery. If your battery is no good and your alternator still works it won't charge. Your mechanic, or the dealer, will be able to test for that. It is an '03 so the battery is 5 years old.

I agree with lmlenzen. First things to check are the battery and corrosion on the battery cables. It may end up being a simple fix. Let's hope it is.

From the BMW Dealer. They gave me a 328i sedan until mine gets fixed.

I went into the dealership this morning and neither my salesman nor the used car manager were in. I ended up talking with the GM and after I told him what had happened. He told me to they would take care of everything.

Now I am just waiting until they call and say everything is done.

If it's the V8, sounds like the starter contacts as they like to go around 90k,,,maybe yours went prematurely.
