04 no aux but want ipod hooked up

hey guys, i have an 04 t4r sport and would like to hook my ipod up to the stock stereo. there is no aux mode on the head unit, but do any of you know a way that i am able to hook it up? i know i can get an fm transmitter, but they usually have a lot of static. i would like to not have to change the whole head unit if i can avoid it. thanks.

If you want to stick with the stock look I would go for a Scion head unit. I got one from ebay about 3 weeks ago for $80. All you have to do is get the iPod adapter cable that plugs in the rear of the Scion stereo. With that cable, it will charge the iPod and also allow the controls on the stereo to control the iPod.

I got the Scion T1806 head unit and I love it. Let me know if you have any questions.

Cost you about $60 bucks after shipping and you can keep your stock radio. Not only does it just have a 3.5mm hookup, it has an ipod hookup where you can charge and control your ipod through your stock radio. It uses the XM radio input on the back of your stock radio so if you have XM currently hooked up this will not work for you. If not, Get that music playin :guitar3:

thanks for the reply. if i buy a new unit will the controls on the steering wheel still be able to control the unit?
 
Well, i looked into that too, however you will need http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIJACK/PAC-SWI-JACK.html?search=steering+wheel+control&ssi=0 on top of your radio cost in order to get your steering wheel controls compatible with your new radio. This device acts as your remote that normally comes with your new radio and uses the remote frequency to activate your steering wheel controls. You would also be wise to get a harness to wire up your new radio instead of cutting your stock wiring. You will also probably need a radio mount package if you don't get the double deck radio. All in all, its around 500 bucks to make an aftermarket radio work right. I think 60 is alot better than 500 but thats just my .02

I would go with the Schosche FMMOD02. Search for it at Scosche.com. I installed this model on my Dad's Ford about a month ago and put a varying model that allows you to hook up and charge your ipod in my T4R. Both models have worked great! They are FM Modulators that hard wire into your stock head unit. Unlike the crappy wireless FM Transmitters these have provided clear sound via 2 radio freqs. It also does NOT require you to give up your XM jack. I bought each for about $40 a piece off of ebay.

hey guys I've been lurking for a while on the forums but I thought I'd post on this one... I just installed a usaspec adapter in my 04 limited about a week ago and love it so far! The adapter lets you control the ipod from the head unit and steering controls, or you can use the ipod controls. It also has an aux input and you can switch between the ipod and aux input from the headunit/steering controls. Only took about 45 mins to install an get the ipod cable routed through the center console. That usaspec thing looks pretty good! However, the sound upgrade you get to your stock speakers is amazing with the scion headunit upgrade. And I added an AUX port along with the IPOD port that I salvaved from a Scion TC in a junkyard.


Both great options.

Yes! The sound with the Scion head unit is much better. It has a higher wattge output to the stock speakers. Much better sound all around.
