'04 Shop manual - looking to buy one.

I've been keeping my eyes open on e-bay, haven't seen anything in the last few weeks. For those that purchased their manuals (not the CD version, actual hard copy) off from e-bay, could you e-mail me their info., as I'd like to get a shop manual as I do all the vehicle maintenance myself.

I bought my hard copy repair manuals from ebay...I got 'em from 'jcmanuals1' for ~$100. Then I ordered the hardcopy wiring diagrams direct from toyota publications for like $60, before I found out that I could access all this info from toyota's TIS. I'd still recommend getting hardcopy shop manuals for the most part, the wiring diagram you could get from TIS cheaper. (note: just checked and jcmanuals1 isn't selling anything on ebay at the moment.)

4Runner Shop Manuals

I got them on Ebay from someone who goes by the moniker of "Jcmanuals". The starting price was $125 for the pair, but there were several bidders so I had pay $145 + shipping ($18.00) to get them. It seems that this seller has an unlimited supply and regularly offers them up for $125 with a minimum bid of $1.50. My advice is don't go above one bid and if overbid wait for him to put up a new set the following week, you'll eventually get them. The 2003 set is cheaper ($100/set) but is different from the 2004, so if you have a 2004 4Runner stick with that year.

I don't see the ad now but I would be surprised if it's not there again soon.

Yes - saw your earlier post too. Thanks very much for the info.! I've contacted him and he replied back saying he still had some, to make an offer. I sent in an offer of $50 (*shrug*), we'll see what happens.

You won't get anything lower than $100, here is a guy selling them for $135

to expensive if you ask me. I would just wait and get them for $100. Yes the 03 manuals are the same as the 04 manuals.

2004 Toyota Shop Manuals

ScottAW - you're quite welcome. I doubt he'll take $50 for the pair. They list for about $280 for both. I would think $125-$135 would be a fair price. As a word of caution, the 2003 version is NOT the same as the 2004. The 2004 is thicker and includes something more, I think wiring diagrams and perhaps more. The 2003's go for about a $100/pair (list $240 or so).

Do the manuals include a service schedule? Basically, my only real reason for getting the manuals was for doing service on the vehicle myself, as in routine service, not repair. (If it's repair, off to the dealer it goes while on warranty!) Besides the obvious oil and fluids check, what mileage to change other fluids at, grease points, etc. I looked through the owner's manual for a service schedule, didn't see one.


...wait a minute, now that I think about it... didn't we get a separate service schedule manual? Geesh, maybe I already have what I want. Hehe.... *smacks self in forehead* It's been waaaay too long of a work week.

Maybe I'll see if Rando will burn me a *backup* copy of the cd that he's organized on his hard drive. That's probably more than sufficient for my needs and will satisfy my curiosity. I can just see my wife flipping out over spending 135 on manuals. :arrow:

You're probably right Scott. If I had to do over again I might not buy the manuals either. Other than the usual maintenance items, the 2004 4Runner is way to complex for me to work on. The day of the shade tree mechanic is over. Besides, who has all that dough for the special tools that you need to work on them. The 2004 manuals have over 4 times the number of pages than my 1988 4Runner's manual has. The “88” is higher off the ground so I can fit under it better too.

What’s the “CD” all about? It would certainly help when I want to do a search on something.

Your dealer should be able to print one out for you. They did for me.

I also bought my '03 repair manuals from Jcmanuals on ebay.

It seems that Toyota didn't include any (2003) V6 info in the original repair manual series. Order the supplement for the V6 changes: "GRN210,215" part #RM1034U.
