'04 Sport V8 -- New Snow/Rain Freeway Tire Suggestions?

Hey all,

I'm at 43k miles on my '04 Sport V8 and need new tires. I got the stock Dunlap AT20's on there right now, and I know people have expressed dissatisfaction with that tire, but I have no basis of comparison.

I live in MN and my family lives in WI, and thus I am driving alot on the freeway, and in ALOT in snow/sleet/rain... and I had aspirations of off-roading but now I don't think that's ever gonna happen...

So: I went in to Discount Tires to get a rotation and he said it would be pointless given the current state of my tires, and that I really needed new tires [which I already new] and was trying to get me to get some Yokohamas and or some Goodyears that had the triple treads. They were about $150 for the Y's and $180 for the GY's.

I haul a boat/jetskis/trailer often enough, and I often have to go through big big snow... so does anybody have any recommendations on a good weather/freeway tire? I'd never even heard of Yokohamas. After reading the forum, I wanted to look into Bridgestone 265/70/17 Revo's, but the guy was like "that's a bit too aggresive for mainly freeway driving, and they'll be REALLY loud." He also looked at his sizing kit and said that he would not recommend getting 265/70/17 tires on my model, even though I know plenty of people on the forum have done so.

So yeah. He also recommended a Perelli, and said that the AT/2 Michelin's would be some of the best I could get. I told him "I'll think about it." when really I meant "I'll consult the gurus on 4runner.org."

What do you think? I don't really want to break the bank, I just want some non-craptastic tires.

Honestly, I know this sounds ridiculous but I'm leaning towards the Perelli's because they have the white lettering on the outside which I like. =/ Plus, the Perelli's are warranty till 50k whereas the Yokohama's are only till 40k...

Anybody recommend those over the Perelli's, or vice-a-versa?

I am in the exact same predicament. I have an '04 Sport 4Runner with stock tires (Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s) and am looking at new tires. I made it 60K on the orig's but now need new ones. After a lot of research I am going to go with the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. Only thing is that they dont make a stock T4R size tire, so I am planning to upgrade to a 265/70 which is about an inch taller and should still work fine. I also plan on getting a used 265/70 for a spare (why buy new?). I was looking for a good highway/occasional offroad tire and settled on the Pirelli's. Only bad comment I have found is some flat-spotting when the vehicle is not moved very often, but you'll get that with any wide tire. I cant find a shop nearby that can order the Pirellis for a reasonable price so I will probably order them online (probably tirerack.com because they have them on sale right now). For the price, I dont know of much that would be a better value.

Dude, go to www.tirerack.com if you want the Scorpion ATRs. They are currently 126 a tire and 143 for the 10-ply tire (size 265/70/17's) as of 8/3 and havn't changed in several weeks. 2 day shipping is about 100 for four (for me anyways). But if you want stock, you found them there at discount tire. Those TripleTreads look like a good highway tire too.

Where are you seeing them for 126/tire? At 265/65/70 (which is what I have right now) they're $155/apiece...
