'04 sr5 v6 problems

I'm new here, so forgive any procedural mistakes I make.

My '04 SR5 V6 just hit 140,000 miles and after years of absolutely not mechanical problems, I've got two that may or may not be related.

1. On two separate occasions spaced weeks apart, the truck will not accelerate when the accelorator pedal is depressed. Tachometer moves and engine revs but speed does not increase and car does not downshift to increase speed. Remains in such a state until car is turned off/next driving session. 1st time speed was at 40 mph. 2nd time speed was 70 mph.

2. This one is way scarier! While on the freeway traveling 60-70 mph one front wheel will randomly lock up and initiate a plow skid (skid indicator beeping firing off like crazy as well) until I hit the breaks 1 second later and then it releases and everything is fine (except for the fact that I just did an unforseeable skid on the freeway and s*#! my pants at the same time). This has happend 3 times.

Two days ago 1 & 2 happened in the same outing. I took the car to the dealer and after 2 days of looking it over and driving it, they tell me they cannot duplicate the experience and please come collect your car, we can't find the problem.

Needless to say I am scared to death to get back behind the wheel on the freeway in this thing.

Does anybody have any ideas/heard of anything similar so I can get some idea of how to address this problem?

That sounds pretty exciting!

Are all the electrics good? Alternator, battery, grounds etc?

Are your front calipers sticking?

The calipers aren't sticking, I've checked the battery (disconnected, reconnected), not sure on the alternator. Is it right to assume it would be some kind of computer problem?

Yes & no... IMHO the computer may be randomly screwing up, no doubt. The real question is why... Power surges/data stream issues are among the most likely causes. Computers tend work right or fail. If they're going to be glitchy and weird on their way to failure it happens early in life. That's why alternator/battery/cable/grounding are the first areas I would focus on prior to dropping big bucks on a computer that may fix the issue.

Just my 2cents.

I would suspect one or more of the wheel ABS sensors are causing the problems. If one or more of them start to indicate a variance in wheel speed in relation to the others, the computer will either remove throttle control to correct what it thinks is a wheel spin, or activate the ABS system to control what it thinks is a skid situation. It is possible that both throttle control and the ABS system could be activated at the same time.

It is also possible that the ECU that controls the throttle and ABS system might be intermittantly malfunctioning.

I would try the following:

1. get your alternator & voltage regulator tested
2. have your battery load tested
3. disconnect power to the entire vehicle for 15 -30 minutes (while they load test battery)
4. Clean all abs sensors and sensor rings. If any sensors are worn or warped then replace them.
