'04 Sunroof Not Auto-Closing

Well, I noticed a few weeks ago when it was warmer that my sunroof doesn't automatically close all the way when you just press the button like it used to. Now I have to manually hold it until I think it is closed , then I have to go double check the outside just to be sure. Any ideas as to why it stopped working all of a sudden? It was fine earlier that week, then one day it just stopped.

Mine does the same. It was auto from 2005-2010 then while out of town my sunroof was collapsed in and after that repair it's been hold button down. Was auto last week and now it's back to holding button Down

could be de-syncronized. all ya need to do is with the sunroof closed...press and hold the button to open it...hold it down the entire time its opening, when it gets to the end hold it for a couple seconds after its full open. then do the same thing to close it...hold it down the entire time.
release the button and try it. if this doesnt work than you may have something else going on.

I know if you disconnect the battery then you lose the auto function. It's simple tho you just have to "reteach" the window. There are threads with instructions on here about it and it's also in the owners manual. Not sure why it would just randomly stop working for you but its worth a try.

Okay, I fixed it thanks to TNTramair.

What I did was while it was closed, I held the "Slide Open" button for the entire time it was opening, then held it for approx. 5 seconds after it stopped and was fully opened. I then held the "Tilt Up" button until it closed, then tilted up all the way, then held it for another 5 seconds after it was opened. Then I just pressed the "Slide Open" button and now it closes and opens automatically.

I can still open/close the sunroof if i hold the button down, but the auto feature stopped after disconnecting my battery.

I'v tried multiple relearn/program steps, but nothing has worked so far.

Does anyone know the correct procedure?

I find I struggle with the official procedure sometimes so instead I just go back and forth several times. Open, hold, close, hold, open, hold, close, hold. etc. Works for me.

You might try the driver front door window sequence first. Hold the down all the way down and hold a couple seconds, then hold all the way up and hold for a couple seconds once closed. I think there was a lock/unlock, lock/unlock, lock/unlock (3 times total) and hold for a couple seconds too on last unlock, to get the rear hatch actuator going again.

Then try the relearn process again on the sunroof.

You’ll have to do it for the auto rear window auto relearn as well.

One of those should get it going hopefully, or a combination.

Hate to say it but you may need to take it out completely and clean it. It won't autoclose if there is something it thinks is resisting. I replaced mine with a new one and in the process, cleaned it out. Now it closes automatically but I don't think it had anything to do with the glass being replaced - it was how how much dirt and grime is up there.
