'04 V6 Oil Change ?

When changing the oil filter in a 2004 V6, does anyone have any tricks for getting the filter off without getting oil all over the filter connector. There are two holes but they don't seem to drain any of the oil. Any help would be great.

I believe there is a small plug under one of the holes to drain the oil. A few here have a small tube to drain it, but i use the messy paper towel way to just soak it all out.

You can get a small 3/8inch ID ( I Think) clear piece of hose (about 2-3 ft long) and slip it on the drain on the lowest portion of the filter mount. There is black cap that you have to slip off the drain first. Set it on one of the hold down bolts for the battery. If you forget to put it back on the drain, it will most likely still be there. Route the hose down to the drain pan and spin the filter off. Just spin the filter off and flip it upright quickly. Wipe up the over spill.

unless you're David Copperfield I don't see how that is possible not to get oil in their. that why they have a drain plug underneath their.

I have found that an old one quart oil bottle will just fit nicely under the spout with the black plastic cover (after you remove the plastic cover). I use the old bottle to catch any oil that drains off. Once the old filter is removed, I use a paper towel or shop rag to soak up the little that remains before I install the new filter. Just remember to remove the catch bottle before you start the engine.

I just use a spagetti jar under the oil filter location, fits nice too, and when I pop the oil filter I let it drain back in the engine and then remove the filter. Easy money wish my Tacoma was that easy.
