05 brake issue?

Over the last couple days my wife has been telling me that the truck will start to creep at a light. She has her foot on the brake and after 10 seconds or so sitting it'll just start to creep forward. She then presses the peddle harder to get it to stop. I drove the truck around for a little and it seemed fine to me. Then again this morning she told me on her way to work it did it again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Reading a bit, wonder if it's the ac cycling. As the ac automatically comes on even with the heater. Which might make sense as when I test drove it the hvac was off and had the windows open. I'll test a bit.

my 3rd gen did this, as well as my 4th gen. I actually bumped a lady once because I wasn't paying attention to my 3rd gen creeping. I have read it's pretty common

Yup.

Make sure that the brakes have been bled properly.

How hard are you guys pressing on the brake pedal? I've noticed at stop lights that the consistent pedal feel of the hydraulically assisted brake units lulls me into unconsciously easing up on the pedal at stop lights. Most of the time when I notice the 4Runner creeping I just add a 1/4-1/2" of downward pressure to the pedal and the truck stops creeping, but it doesn't feel much different (unlike other vehicles where the assistive force is much lower so you "feel" the brakes stiffening up.)

I am just curious.

I have found that after my frame replacement, which included new brake lines and fluid, that my brakes require a lot less pressure and less travel than they used to. As a result, I don't notice the AC cycling on and off as I used to.

I have the same issue with my '04. I assumed it was because I've never had an electro/hyd brake setup before and this is just how they are. The brakes work fine but I do notice creep at stop lights. I've bled/flushed my brakes in accordance with the service manual and my pads have a ton of meat left on them, rotors are in great shape.

With the dramatic change in brake feel that I experienced after my frame replacement, I have to wonder whether the 4Runner brakes can be effectively bled without using Toyota's computerized tool.

I don't mean to threadjack but what happened that required you to get a new frame? Rust?

might want to go check your rotors and see if they are wearing properly. might be worn pads, rotors, etc. i fixed my brake creep with $36 by getting new brake lines for a tired set that lasted for 185k

i recently did the WH upgrade along with my stainless steel lines and stopping power has greatly improved

Usually on modern cars with the ABS like the 4Runner, you can bleed them fine as long as you don't get any air in the system pre ABS solenoid. If you let the master cylinder go empty or you change that out, you pretty much need to use a computer to open the ABS up and bleed it out to be 100% effective. Not sure on 4Runners as I am newer to them, but on some cars with this style ABS there is a trick to get it to open, you would have to google it for the 4Runner though.

That's what I was thinking. She may just be slightly releasing them a bit.

Reviving and old thread all. I will come to a stop sign, to a full stop and then notice at times that the old runner will start creeping on me. Yes I can press the brakes harder and eliminate the issue but it still catches me off guard at times. This can happen regardless of whether or not the A/C is on. My understanding is this is a known issue and can be addressed simply by applying more pressure but.....I believe I have noticed this issue happening less, or not at all, after I grease the driveshaft (6 zerks u joint/slide yoke). I have had my 4runner for under a year now and have only completed the service twice but both times I noticed not only the "clunk" going away but also seems to eliminate the vehicle creeping.

So all of you knowledgeable 4runner gurus....is that even possible? Could performing the driveshaft service have an impact on the brake creep?

Same here, lurches forward too when a/c engaged. I have got used to it, just pushing brakes harder.
