It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish... Most people chose 6x9s when they want some bass but don't want to get a sub/amp or their doors already have 6x9s in them and are just replacing. Personally if my door had factory 6x9s I would replace them with 6.5s BUT I also install basically every day. It's not a complicated install but none the less it isn't standard. If you are going with a sub you'll be happier with 6.5s but either way you will be fine. I had a set in my BMW and they were the MCSQ 5.25 components and I loved them. At my old shop we had them and JL XR and ZRs on the board... I chose the memphis over both and money was not an issue.

But on the other side...arguing with someone about speakers is an endless battle. Speaker choice is all preference. I'm just telling you what I think sounds good based off what I've heard, not just what I've got.

tarheeltp17 Steering wheel controls can be programmed to any function. Say from the factory you have source, volume up, volume down, track up, and track down buttons on your steering wheel. You can make the factory source button the aftermarket mute button if you wanted... etc. So if your steering wheel has 5 controls, you can program any 5 controls to those buttons.

Ok, you have gotten me thinking now. This is what the installer told me. I have the one that plugs into the back of the radio, and he said that the channel up and down instead of preset up and down was the way it is. He said that the other steering wheel interface (the older one) was able to change from preset to preset, but it was unreliable.

I also had another installer tell me that I would be able to use steering wheel controls with the presets, but I would have to sacrifice being able to control the cd player portion of my radio.

I basicaly gave up and managed to come up with a way of using the presets on the radio and clicking through the channels when I'm driving.....so it works but it is not ideal.

Am I correct in assuming that this is a new technology and most installers are not familiar with it? Thats is why I'm getting conflicting information.

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-580 head unit. Do I just take it back to them and tell them tp reprogram the buttons or can I do it myself?
