05 Limited vs 06 SR5

Ok, so I know the differences for the refresh but I'm not totally sure what they mean for me. This will be my first car and I will keep it for a while. I'm not planning on doing any off-roading but I do want to level it and put on some bigger tires.

I was previously told that I should stick with the 06 and newer models but there is a really nice 05 Limited. I actually prefer the appearance of the 05 model but wasn't sure whether or not the refresh was worth it. It's not that I dislike the SR5, but I would prefer the amenities of the Limited. Would y'all get the new year for the changes or be satisfied with the 05?

Buy the limited and then buy led tail lights for $150 after. I love my 05 limited and ran across the same situation. I feel like it helps to have all the amenities for resale.

You'll hear nothing but good things from those of us with '05 Limiteds - I couldn't be happier with mine but most of us are biased to what we drive. I'm nearing 200k and do go off-road a lot and wheel it hard but even with that abuse I wouldn't hesitate to drive across the country with my travel trailer. Quite reliable to say the least!

I didn't really expect to hear anything bad hahaha. The hard part of this search is getting a Limited in 4WD. All that do usually have 160K+ on them and that is a little high. And while I won't be off-roading, 4WD is a must (I can't be THAT guy with a lifted truck that has 2wd lol. Also, my dad would prefer I have it for bad weather conditions). The hard part will be convincing my mom to let me get a car as old as an 05.

Really the changes between the 05-06 are just visual correct? Front bumper, grill, headlights, fenders, and rear bumper molding? If it's a reliability concern, I doubt there is even any evidence to support this. Get whichever year you like the look of most and has the lowest miles/ most documented services/ most taken care of, for your price range.

That's a nice one and be better if you can haggle it down a little. Mine is an 03 V8 4runner with 210K miles and still going strong. Don't be put off with a high mileage because a lot of Toyota 4runner owners baby them.

Yeah the high mileage doesn't bother me too much. The only think I'm kind of concerned about is the mpg. An all time 4WD V8 with a lift and tires = not so good mpg :)

......... Also, those fake TRD decals are really bothering me....... fingers crossed they come off easy

If you're worried about MPG then you need to move on to a Highlander. 4Runner's aren't and wern't built to be fuel sippers.
