05 sequoia

I have a 1999 4runner limited that I built for overlanding, but after a few trips my wife and I decided we needed something a little larger and with more power to tow.

I ended up picking up a 2005 sequoia with 165,000 miles on it for very cheap from an insurance auction. The damage to it was that a rat had made a home in the engine bay and chewed through the knock sensor harness.

First thing I did was splice in a new connector for the harness wire and then I changed the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and a new battery. It now runs great with no issues.

Current Setup:

The plans for the sequoia will be:
- Icon or King coilovers and rear shocks
- Hidden winch behind stock front bumper
- Full length roof rack
- Goose gear drawer setup
- Rock sliders
- HID retrofit
- Onboard Shower
- Onboard air

This past weekend we took it for its first trip to the mountains to snowshoe and kayak. Love this rig so much more than my 3rd gen 4runner. Transmission temps never got above 138 and my 4runner on same drive would be around 185. It is also nice to be able to accelerate up the passes and have the power to pass finally.

I dig your Sequoia project. Is there any aftermarket support for these rigs? I'm considering an 05-07 as well but can't seem to find any vendors with the usual products like lift etc. What about power-adders? Were TRD SCs available for these V-8s?

Most of the suspension that fits the tundra will work on the sequoia's. There are not a lot of support, but seem to have more options than just a year ago when I considered one.

I've heard the sequoias are very comfortable to ride in. Is that true? How is wind and road noise? I have considered getting one as my 3rd gen is so stiff and uncomfortable. And underpowered as you mentioned

I am not sure how a stock 4runner drives as I never drove a stock one for more than a couple hundred miles. I do think the road noise is less with the sequoia and the ride is very nice. I thought I would miss the 4runner, but I do not see myself missing it as i love having the power and more room in the sequoia.

Ordered up a gobi roof rack today, should have it in 8-12 weeks. Was going to build my own, but I just have too many irons in the fire right now.

Looking like I will be going with just a base icon coilover without reservoir since my last setup the front coilovers with the CDC I had set at 4 and didn't move them much, but the rears I used a lot so will be going with Icon 2.5 rear shocks with reservoir w/CDC

Any updates?? I'm looking for one of these trucks right now. They seem to go for cheap. I thought maybe they weren't very reliable, but I was very wrong. I guess no one wants a big gas guzzler lol. I would already have one, but these people on Craigslist never call me back.

After 16 week wait the gobi roof rack was delivered yesterday. Was able to get the roof rack installed last night without any issues. My only complaint with the rack is that I feel it sits about 2" higher than it needs to.
