05 Undercarriage Rust

doesn't look terribly bad from your pic. My 03 4 runner was probably as bad. What i did was put it in the air......spent ~six hours w a stiff wire brush on a drill removing the flaky rust......then I sprayed all those rusted areas w a product called "UDERCOATING" BY Rust-Oleum....after emptying four 15 oz spray cans I was done. Note that rust is a form of oxidation......that oxidation is a slow burning.......that burning requires oxygen......so cut off the oxygen and you stop (or slow down) further rusting. Two years later it still looks pretty damn good. I believe "Undercoating" worked well.....further, it's rubberized ......a good sealer.

I notice that this post was originally made in 2010, about a 2005 4Runner. That's a lot of rust in 5 years. Depending on where you live, preparing your vehicle for that climate makes an enormous difference I guess.

glad to hear you liked the undercoating so far... but just an FYI: do a search on rubberized undercoatings or ask a reputable body shop what they think of it, its notorious for trapping moisture & not being truly water tight & it allows rust to continue underneath the coating. so you may not see it now but just spraying cheap undercoating over rust like that does not stop it & can cause worse rusting & doesnt seal as well compared to a standard paint.
