06-09 v6 supercharged

I'm ready for my supercharger now...??? I do hope that 05+ v8 supercharger comes to fruition. As I am granted permission from the wife. Just hope they get it figured out before these funds get allocated somewhere else.

pssh, I wish. Anyway it not that bad honestly I went to the APR shop as its IN san antonio which is superbadass and so I can get cutsom tuning. The X1is what the URD kits use for tuning so the cam gears and thermostat are gonna need to be changed out for the X1 components.

You didn't do it yourself, so how much did APR charge you? That is, besides the cost of the X1, thermostat and sprockets, what did the labour and everything else (like new gaskets, things that got screwed up, etc.) cost?

$200. Nothing broke so no other parts were needed. I did install one and uninstalled the same FJ with no problems so the learning experiance from APR was a big help. If your gentle with the valve cover gaskets you can reuse them.

is there a need to beef up the transmission or change the gears in the rear with a Supercharger ?

You don't modify the throttle body, I assume your meaning valve body in the trans. And its done by IPT and you have to send yours out so there will be down time sadly.

sorry, I'm thinking faster than I'm typing LOL

yes, I know what you mean about tranny valve bodies

I should have posed the throttle body statement as a question -my bad, LOL

so we don't cut in on your thread, I'll post the throttle body question in a new thread

Thanks though, and keep us posted on your project !

Times two!

Gadget (or Skyline), any luck yet in sourcing a tuning solution?

An additional question: the TRD Tacoma/FJ kit doesn't require an exhaust cam gear swap as was required with the X-One (or does it?). I'm one potential supercharger customer who's willing to forego some output (and cost) for not having to tear into the engine's top end.

I still can't believe I wasted money on an aftermarket exhaust when the factory pipes flow really well and are drone- and fart-free.

A mapecu3 is a great unit plus urd has the necessary plugs for a plug and play deal. TRD kit? if you are referring to the X1 then yes I have the cam gears and thermostat. If you are willling to spend a bit more then a pro efi is fantastic has the features as the X1. You can make your own exhaust, invest in some vbands and clamps and get rid of the factory style flanges. If you are going to run the TRD unit you will need the FJ fit kit and make some small alterations to the intercooler brackets and/or if given the choice run the tundra 5.7 intercooler, it has more capacity.

I'm more curious as to why replacing the exhaust cam sprokets were so necessary with the X-One -- building cylinder pressure, of course, but more what's left on-the-table output-wise by not swaping these cogs. If these are the options, is Gadget offering these tuning options in the kit yet? Meaning, are they tested and dyno'd with the URD kit yet?

I know I can make my own exhaust, that's not the issue. I'm more concerned with the electronic interface and what makes the 4Runner's powertrain management so different from the FJ's. Supercharged Tundras are flashed at the dealer, what about the FJs? And why not the 4Runners? I've been pounding this proverbial drum in many posts/threads.

Basically the factory exhaust cam gears act as a built in EGR. The apr exhaust cam gears get rid of that effect and help with exhaust scavenging as well as increasing compression effectiveness. One of the main reasons though is timing, on the tunes provided they really re**** the timing to deal with higher octane fuel or E85 (with bigger injectors of course to handle the added volume), hence the need for the cam gears. OEM ones can't handle that. When Gadget made the MK2 and MK3 supercharger it used the X1. They worked together on the MK2. So now I can only guess what EMS G-man is using, but everything will be tested before it is even available on the market. FJ's have their own flash if you get the TRD supercharger. 4runner's tuning is very close, if not the same as the FJ's. I'm running FJ tuning files on my truck at the moment. If your wondering why TRD didn't release the supercharger for the 4runner I have a couple of guesses but can only release one. We had a V8 option while the FJ/taco didn't.

SR5 and Sport edition V8s as well as V8 2WD fourth gens weren't available in Canada. V8s only came in Limiteds and, well, they were way too expensive for most people, myself included.

I get the EGR-effect part but what you wrote is unclear; timing -- you mean re****ed spark advance and the factory exhaust valve phasing couldn't handle it (the EGTs got too hot)? TRD manged to force-feed this engine and flash it without tearing into the engine. That's what I'm after.

Maybe I should consider starting my own venture offering reworked fit-kits and re-flashing for V6 4th-gen owners who wish to run TRD superchargers. If no one else will do it.

You can run without them you'll just have to find a way to deal with knocking. however thats running a TRD 425 flash. yeah it's funny how you can't say re ****. lol however I'm pretty sure that's why they have bigger injectors and a intercooler/coolant deal on the 4.0 TRD unit. I view it like this. If they won't release to 4th gen 4runners, **** them. There are much better alternatives. Or make your own, it'll be cool to see a twin screw system on a 1gr.

I don't need to win Pinks All-Out. I just want something in the low 14s, high 13s. What's the 425 flash? 425 hp? I'd be happy with less to be practical. 4-5 psi is pretty typical in this application; what's the TRD psi and the URD psi with the X-One?

425 flash is the injector size. I'm in the mid-high 14s with my current setup and still have the factory Y and catback. TRD is about 5 and urd is about 7-9. But its the delivery or powerband that'll be important. TRD is good at 2000-3000 RPM, URD is good from 3000 to redline. It's all in what you want.

Sweet keep it comin. Good to see someone else with intrested in making power... I know this is a supercharged thread but APR is working on a turbo kit as well. That could also be an alternative. Also u can look into E85. Was up Skyline Hows it goin Bro! Got on a Rx-7 turbo 2 Saturday the old ones beat him all through up to 4th gear.

Well that explains it. Any more than 4-5 psi on a 10:1 compression engine is a ticket to detonation town. The TRD setup is what I want. Your 4Runner's a 2WD?
