'06 4Runner Sport ?

Sorry if this is an old topic, but I have searched, read, and still don't know for sure on this. I am looking to buy a 4Runner and have found a '06 Sport 4x4 V8 I like for a good price. From what I have found the '06 Sport has all-time 4x4 with a center locker. I'm assuming the center locker doesn't actually lock the wheels like a real diff locker? Also, from what I have read you cannot turn off the traction control. So, anyone with a 4Runner like this, are they offroad capable? I know my Tundra with the traction control turned on, in a bind, didn't have enough power to pull out of anything until you turned it off. I am going to add a 3 inch lift with 33's to trail ride in Colorado, and here in Texas, but I just don't want to make a mistake and wish I would have bought a diff year model. Thanks for any help on this

You have purchased an insanely reliable, AND CAPABLE off road vehicle. As long as it was well maintained by the prior owner/s, you are in very good shape and should be extremely confident with your purchase. On another note, welcome to T4R.org and our growing family of owners! Where in Texas are you? Any plans for Big Bend?

That is correct.

you cannot turn off the traction control.

That is correct...but... It was not until 2008 that Toyota added VSC off switch however there are plenty who have added the capability in earlier models. Search VSC off mod.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I haven't bought it yet, but found what I think is a good deal on one with under 80k. I'm waiting on the dealership to get back with me on it. I have never owned an SUV only trucks, but I think I will like it.

I never owned an SUV/truck but I love my 4runner. Being that the one you are looking at is at 80k, you will be needing to replace the timing belt/water pump soon. Something you might be able to use to negotiate a lower price.
