06 Bug Shield

I don't think you will find a bug shield for the 2006. The design of the grill is different and there is no room for the bugshield to slide into. If you look at the 2003-2005 4Runners, there is a small gap that the bug shield can fit into.
 
Funny you should mention...

I went to Mats.com (McNeil), punched in 2006 4Runner and lo and behold, among the items offered were the Weathertech bug shield. Ordered that plus the window deflectors and the KN air filter....by phone, ..."Yes, it's for my 06 Runner."

When they arrived I installed the window deflectors (they fit fine) but before I opened the bug deflector I noted it was labeled "03-05". Oops.

Anyway, McNeil sent me a sticker so I can ship it back....all the while implying I should have somehow known better than to order a 05 bug shield...

I'm wondering if they'll try to hit me again with $18 shipping when the 06 is finally available.

Now I need to go change my signature.---

I just got off the phone with the local Toyota dealer and I had them contact Toyota parts. They were told and I was told the bug shield for 06's would be available by the end of May now. A little later than they orginally said.

I called my dealer on Monday and they said that all the 06 Hood protectors in our area are on backorder, possibly for up to 2 months. However he told me they sucessfully installed an 05 hood protector on an 06 the week before and assured me it would work. I bought it and am putting it on in the morning. I will let you all know how it goes.
 
Thanks for the update, please let me know how it goes. I saw a 2006 go by me the other day and it had a bug deflector on it, I almost turned around to find out what he had done or where he got it from. Maybe it was a fitted 2005 deflector. I guess I am inclinded to wait a month.
 
Well I attempted to put the bug guard on this morning but I couldn't get it to fit. I took it back to the dealership and returned it and they swore to me they got the same guard to fit an 06 last week. It pretty much looked impossible to me without modifying the guard in some way. He told me they would put it on for 45 bucks (ridiculous) but I am seriously needing one as I have a road trip coming up and bugs drive me crazy. I am thinking about taking them up on the offer ...but I am afraid it won't work, in which case I would get my money back, but I don't know if I want to deal with it or not.

What did you decide? Did you get it installed?
 
No I haven't been back yet. I am still debating in my head, if I do go it will be Wednesday afternoon and I will let you know.
 
I am going at 10 in the morning to try again. My friend apparently works in the parts department and he is going to slap it on for free. I will post here around noon and let you all know if it worked or not.
 
Just as I suspected, they couldn't get the guard to fit. I went in around 9:15 and at 10 they came out to tell me that I was done and could go. Except that the bug guard is not attached because they couldn't get it to fit. But the good news is they expect the 06 guards in about 2 weeks. They still swear that they got one to fit an 06 before and that my hood is different. I call BS
 
Thanks for the update, I just didn't see how they were going to make it work. I just talked with my parts guy and he said the sheet from Toyota still said end of may for the '06 Bug Shield. I'll take two weeks. Installing the Westin Safari bar tonight.
