06 front grill mod- trd pro tacoma

I grafted a Tacoma trd pro grill onto my 06 4runner grill. I picked up a 3rd gen Tacoma grill on eBay for cheap as the donor. This is much harder then the satoshi mod and more tools tools are needed. A lot of patients is needed beacause glues and Hondo need to dry. The Tacoma grill is much flatter then the 4runner grill so it’s a judgement call on the way you want it. It took me about 4-5 days mostly drying. I was gonna do a write up but wasn’t sure if it would look good and I’m still checking for stress cracks. But, hope this helps somebody build theirs or gets some ideas.

I have an 04 and that 06 grill was modded to fit an 04 bumper. On a 04 grill you would have to trim more then half the grill. just get an 06 cause your bumper shouldn't interfere.

I'm planning to get 06' headlights and already bought the lower trim pieces so the 06' grill should fit right in. I will probably go that route now.

How did you paint match it? Looks good.

Its just a spray bomb rustoleum automotive primer, paint and clear. I'm gonna sand and buff it in a week. not a perfect match and im gonna wait till i build some rear fenders to do a real repaint. the 06 headlights with some h11 led bulbs in oem projectors is amazing and beat some of my friends hid morimotos. i drive a lifted truck it is impossible not to glare everybody in a car

That looks awesome! I like that much better than most Satoshi grills I’ve seen. Subbing for future reference. I already have the ‘06 lights so I was planning at some point to fit the ‘06 grill anyway.

Looks great! I have a Satoshi grille myself and this one looks pretty damn good IMO. I don't think it'd look great on my white '07 Sport but with your paint, it looks great! Noticed you recommended people to look into '06 grille - happy to make it easier for people that's on the fence of doing this tacoma mod...don't mind me!



If anyone is interested in doing this mod and do not want to use their own grille, feel free to PM me offers for my '07 Sport Chrome grille!! I replaced my stock grille with the Satoshi one that was pre-made by MJT. Will need to cover shipping costs as I will be shipping it in the same box that contained the Satoshi grille, though!

its holding up great so far... i used a couple screws, expanding gorilla glue and some jb weld. it was one of the imitations ones from ebay so the double sided tape for the letters was poor quality and a letter was loose. so i don't have to buy another letter i re-taped it with real 3m and glue gunned the alignment tab in the rear.

You also could have just scraped off the old tape and just used clear silicone caulk. I’ve done this many times for loose emblems and badges and they never fall off again, plus it’s easier to cut loose if you actually need/want to remove them later. I only use the 3m tape for stuff like side body moldings and heavier things. Silicone would work for those as well, but would need to be taped in place to hold it in position while drying, and I usually don’t have the patience for that, so I just use the tape for a quicker repair.
