'06 Headlights

I was at the dealer today, so I checked out a new 06 they had on the lot. It was a white sport edition. Overall, I do like all the changes. I wasn't a fan of the new fenders based on internet photos, but they look good in person. They are also a bit bulkier than the previous models, so they do add to the truck-like appearance. The headlights and tail lights look nice, though I was a bit mixed about the tails. They are ruby red, which is not what I expected based on internet pics.

There was an 05 parked next to it, so I did some informal measurements of the area around the headlights. It looks like the sheet metal is indeed the same for the sides. The only difference, as expected is the small trim piece below the lights. One possible concern though is that they changed the grille with a small cutaway that the lights mimic. I don't know how this would interface with the 03-05 grille.

I wonder if the wiring is the same? Also, I wonder if it would be possible to get the new small trim piece below the lights. If that's the case, I think they'll work in the 03-05 T4Rs.

I did the same thing yesterday. The fenders are the same and the headlights are the same size. So far, it seems like it's totally possible to do. Just buy the new headlight along with the trim piece beneath the headlights. The trim piece for the 03-05's is around $20 each side unpainted, so it should be roughly the same for the 06's.

The only thing you might have a problem with is the wiring. The new headlights use H11 bulbs while our 03-05's are 9006. I didn't check out the sidemarker, but it looked like a 194/168 bulb, in which case, it'll work.

No, it definitely isn't an easy mod. When I was at the dealer this past week, they had five 06 SR5's there. When looking at the headlights up close, they are definitely not the same shape as those on the 03-05's. In addition, the new headlights cases now house the orange DRL and turn signal. On our trucks, the DRL's/turn signals are next to the fogligts. I assume you would have to change the front bumper as well because you would have two DRL/turn signal lights. The 2006's only have the foglights at the bottom of the front bumper.

For halogen projectors, I wouldn't go through the trouble. If they were HIDs in the other hand, I'd kill for them.

Is there any difference between the headlights on the GX470 and the ones on the 06 4Runner? I was just reading the Lexus website and they said that the GX470 has four-beam projector headlamps. Would the GX470 headlights give off more light or is it just a fancy name for projectors?

Four beam projector headlamps? I think that means that both the high beams and low beams are projectors. 2 for the lows and 2 for the highs. Other than that, they're still just halogen projectors, so the low beams would be equal to that of the 06 4runner's.

H11... This may be a challenge to change the wiring for it.
Another question is trip piece. OK, it's different, but also the bumper is and it might be different clips location.
