06 -- How to repair/replace AUX input?

The AUX input is damaged somehow. Simply put, if I put the cord in and hold it JUST the right way it'll play music. Obviously I'm not able to just hold the cord in while driving though. I'm wondering what needs to be done in order to replace or repair it? I don't really know how to get in there... is it a complex undertaking? Am I better off just buying a cheap bluetooth receiver? I really don't care about the quality of the audio all that much -- just enjoy being able to listen to Spotify on the commute to/from work.

It's SUPER easy to get to the AUX connector. You could try repairing it by disassembling it and bending the pins back. If that fails, just get a new unit, which probably won't be all that much. I think $20 some bucks?


IIRC, it's just held in by some tabs...

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the entire center console (all the way up to the heat/AC controls) is all connected and will come off together...? Once I get that taken off, can you tell me what I'd need to do in terms of disassembly? Just want to make sure I'm not undertaking something that's over my head. Thanks again!

with the sales going on, a new headunit with bluetooth and hd radio is a must. single din or double din of your choice. i personally use pioneer lines, atleast the midrange area of the lines. but a basic one will do for you. forget fixing the aux. being wireless in the car is so much better.

What do places charge these days to install though? I'm really not looking to spend much money here as I don't care a ton about the sound quality.

It shouldn't be difficult to take apart, if it were me, I'd just find another OEM "AUX" connector (hopefully the connector itself isn't damaged......... in which case getting another connector would be worthless, LOL.......).

Pretty sure I still have an OEM AUX input. I’ll sell it for 20 shipped if you’re interested.

Yea, it comes out together as a whole unit and just unplugs from the back of the Headunit AFAIK. But whats really wrong is just the AUX input in the center console box.

IIRC, you need to remove the center console pieces around the shift knob and back. Remove the two screws at the base of the center console box(on the inside of the box. From there, locate and unplug the AUX input from the outside of the center console box, and push? or pry the tabs away from the back of the AUX input so you can push it into the center console box. you just need to pry out the AUX input in the center console box. From there, use the video CookieRoe provided from 1:42 and you should be on your way.

Basically, use this site to guide you through removing the center console pieces (although, I recommend you use something plastic and not a metal screw driver), and once you get to the end of step 2, you should be able to locate the AUX input connector and be able to wiggle it out.

I put one of the MicTuning (from Amazon) combo bluetooth and input adapter in my van and car a while back. They're cheap and work fine by tricking the head unit into thinking it's got an external CD changer input. If you can remove/reinstall the headunit you can put one of these in with no problem.

Now that RadioShack is no longer really a thing there's not a very handy place around go pick up a panel mount headphone jack. If you can solder at all you can just skip the jack and splice in a cable directly. It's only 3 wires....

if you go to a place that specialize in car audio and electronics, usually they have the installed price included. that means no bestbuy special. they dont do a good job anyway.
if you want to try to tackle this yourself, shop through crutchfield.com, the install instructions are pretty good. some pics are provided, and theres alot pictures on the forum too.
once you build a good partnership with the audio store, you will get good deals with them. also the shops usually warranty the labor for years. for alarms they usually provide lifetime warranty.
