'06 Limited or '08 Sport V8 4x4...

Personally I would go for the 08 Sport Edition. You get the side impact airbags standard, more resale, X-REAS, and that cool funny looking thing on the hood. That scoop thingie I think it's called. I'm not much for leather seats or plushy plushy stuff.

30k is darn young for any 4runner. You should test drive both trims and see which one makes you most happy and go with it. They are both good vehicles. Btw, my vote goes to Galactic Gray.

Factory nav blows away any crappy external nav, there is no debating this. Factory nav is more integrated, monitors wheel speed, the bluetooth pauses any radio/cd play when calls come in, no crappy looking box for someone to steal hanging on the window, rear view camera is an EXCELLENT tool, I can go on and on. It's cool that you went with the SE, but please do not undervalue the Limited edition. We are not fools. There is a reason why the truck costs a few grand more.

Also, your estimates on resale are off as well since we do not know the mileage and options on both vehicles.. And who says NAV will be obsolete in 3 years? That is nuts. If anything, it will be standard in every car.

Options have VERY little to do with a used cars value.
As you would be aware of if you just shopped the whole country for one.

1. TECHIE FEATURES,when they work? Using that mentality, why don't we all drive 89 civics 5 speed without power windows?

2. DVD based nav systems, you simply get an updated DVD. FOr the main purpose it serves, they're up to date. Not too many new roads get built on a yearly basis. As far as establishments go, most are there, but all nav systems will be behind on that just a bit. Updating the DVD helps. I rarely find this to be an issue.

3. As far as what the LIMITED is worth being only 1500 more, thats also ridiculous. ALL cars are a brutal investment. I didn't shell out an extra 7k because I give a darn what it would be worth 6 years from now. I did it because i hate cloth seats, external nav, and guess what, small child is right behind your rig, you can't see him without the camera. Great safety feature also helps for lining up a hitch.

BTW, I would never buy this or any other car...again..terrible investment. I only lease. That being said, If I weren't 6"4' with the terriblly low seating position, I would buy this truck out and the end of my lease. Main reason is because it IS loaded. I don't feel like I'm missing out when I see all these new SUVs coming loaded with the blue tooth, camera, nav, etc.

When researching 4's the past couple of weeks I printed out 2 charts showing options/package features.
Both show the sport getting .70" larger front discs than the SR5 and Limited, and didn't list the suspension under the 'features' as it did the Sport.

Actually, the plot continues to thicken because I had thought, like Koz, that Limiteds got the bigger rotors in '05. According to this '05 PDF - the authenticity of which I can't vouch for but it looks official - it was simply a matter of wheel size as to which vehicle got 13.3 front rotors in 2005. (Elsewhere in the PDF, anytime the model is relevent it appears in parentheses).
Do you have any links to the sites you relied on for your information?

The Limited we were looking at was a higher price, close to 30k. The SE will probably be a bit over 30k but it starts to get so close that the lines start to look a little blury financially. The pressure for the Limited was primarily from my wife who really likes leather a lot more than cloth/fabric. I find merits in both really. Leather does feel a little cooler at first in the winter, but it heats up quickly with body heat and seat heaters (Have these in our Pilot EX-L). In summer they're warm but not searing, again they seem to cool down quickly. I think the whole temperature thing is urband legend

For ME (Not wife) I think I'd rather have a new vehicle that I know the history of and with X-REAS. I have a portable GPS if needed, integrated is nice but the map updates are pretty pricy usually ($150-200+). Almost cheaper to just buy a new mobile GPS every few years at that price! I could understand maybe $50-75.

One thing I'm finding with dealers in my region is that they all seem to have the 10 speaker audio system on them which jacks the price up $650+. And of course there are the other annoying PIO's like exhaust tip and various door trim pieces etc....blah!

So it looks like I'm leaning towards an '08 4Runner SE V8 4x4, just need to decide on the color. White and black are out. Not too big on blue or red on a truck (No offense to those that have them) so looks like either Titanium or Galactic Gray Mica... Of which there is 1 of each at the local-local dealers (Haven't looked beyond ~30 miles quite yet)

Sorry Mirlen, I didn't catch this earlier post of yours. Considering the fact that the 06 Limited is close to 30K, I would probably go for the SE as well. Knowing that you are the only owner of a vehicle is very valuable. How many miles on the Limited?

Seems a little high for an 06 with 30k on the odo. I bought my 06 Limited w/ NAV, sun, side bags, 3rd row, etc over a year ago for less than $30k and it had ~15k on the odo.

As far as the comments on the rear camera, I couldn't live without it after getting used to it. Even if you go with the sport an aftermarket back-up cam would be cool. Every single time I backup in a parking deck or lot it gets used. You can back up to almost an inch of the cars behind you without hitting them.

No brainer. Go with new. No price difference or options can make up for: How the engine was broken in. How it has been treated. etc.

Not only that, but it's also got a hood scoop. Always go with the hood scoop...

BTW, do you really need a V8? I love the 4.0 V6. If you hardly have to tow, V6 would be a great choice. Easy oil changes, great motor, TIMING CHAIN (I believe the V8 has a belt?), and 2WD option (instead of full-time 4WD).

Yes, the 4.0 V6 came out in 03, but it was a 4-speed transmission up until 05 when they changed it to 5-sp. They have proven bullet-proof thus far on 4Runners and Tacoma's.

The oil changes are simpler, because they have a factory "filter relocation kit" installed. When you open the hood, it's right there (to the right of the engine, if you're facing the car). The V8 isn't THAT hard, but it sure it nice being able to change it standing up! (You still have to get on the ground to drain the oil. )

Also, the V6 models have a multi-mode 4WD system, so you can run 4WD on dry pavement, thus giving you "full-time" 4WD. But it also gives you the ability to run 2WD for better gas economy. Now, top that off with Toyota switching over to a timing chain, and you've got a winner.

As far as power goes, of course the V8 will have better low end torque, thus feeling faster, but honestly, when I test drove it, up top, they both felt about the same. The V8 will feel faster to most people due to the initial torque, but the V6 is very impressive. Impressive enough to outweigh the extra umph of the V8. You will pay more for the V8 model, pay more at the gas pump and pay more for maintenance (two extra plugs, timing belt, more oil, etc.).

I have that exact pdf only mine is for 07's and reads exactly as I said before. 13.3 (sport only) Does not relate the wheel size to brake size in any way. Guess they changed how they configured them over the years.
