06-present projector headlights

How many have done the 06 and present projector headlights into the 03-05 4runners. I am sorry if this has been brought up several times. I have searched this and all I could find is one thread written in 2006 about it.

I know that you can do it, from the thread, but it leaves a little triangular gap from the grill to the headlights. So my questions are.

1) Has anyone remedied the the triangular gap created when putting 06+ headlights to 03-05 4runners?

2)Did anyone just retrofit the whole front bumber and headlights from 06+ onto 03-05 4runner? Or is it even possible?

Thanks. Again I apologize if this has been brought up times before, but I just could't find it. Or I am just an idiot and did not search it right.

The 2006+ bumper would not fit. The style of the fender flares are different and the seam between the flare and bumper is different. There's a taper on the 2006+ bumper where the 2003-05 is straight across.

on all the conversions I've seen the gap is not that noticeable, so most just live with it. if you want to get rid of it, you'd need to fab up some metal (perhaps using leftover from the old trim piece) and fiberglass and attach it to the headlight trim piece

Thank you very much for the info.

You could get an 06-08 hood w/ the grille, that would get rid of the gap...

Would that really work? Because I'm thinking of getting a sport hood anyway, might just opt for an 06+ sport hood and grill.

Again thanks for the info guys.

Like Uneek said, where the front bumper meets the fender flares is different from the two model years. Believe me, I've looked into it, just like every other person that has done the mod. I'm just going to live with the gap. Its the cheapest and easiest way, I think.

headlight upgrade

I was kicking around the same idea. Does anyone have pics of their truck after the swap? Would it be easier to just get aftermarket projector headlights?

I believe you, but what we are talking about is just the hood and grill, and would it cover up the gap?

Irrelevant for me now, but someone else would like to know. I returned my 05 4runner to the dealer :( . Long story short, they screwed up my paperwork and loan never came through and so I never really owned it. But good news, another dealer just got in the truck I really want in the first place and they are making sure that the transaction has no mis-steps. It is 06 V8 shadow mica sport edition. Picking it up this weekend, they are making it certified and all that stuff and new tires. Like they say one door closes another busts open.

Sorry, I guess this should have been explained before. The hood is the same for all years with the exception of the Sport which has the hood scoop. The grill on the 03-05 is inset under the front lip of the hood, the grill on the 06-08 is set outside of the front lip of the hood. The 06-08 grill will not fit the 03-05 bumper because its taller. You could modify the grill as some few have done, but it won't fit otherwise. I hope this has cleared up any questions on the swap.

If you find out any other info on this, as in it would work, please let us all of us with the 03-05's know about it.

Good luck with the 06 Sport. You're lucky that you no longer have to concern yourself with swapping out the headlights and tail lights. I envy your new rig.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. Now I understand. That why this forum rocks, because theres a lot of guys and or gals on here knows this stuff. Thanks SimonSez.

I just got lucky, the guy that we worked with at the first dealer but did not buy truck from him, as soon as he saw that truck come in, he thought of us and just figure to give me a call just to tell me that. Good timing I would say.
