06 Running Boards Useful?

I've got an 06 Limited with the black lighted running boards. Had the truck about 20 days now and have yet to find a use for the running boards. The truck isn't tall enough to need them to get in and if you do use them, then you smash your head into the roof. I like the mudflaps, so I don't want to lose them.

Anyone know how hard the running boards are to remove?
Anyone else have simaliar problems?

My children use them.

In addition, I find them to be useful when securing something to the roof rack.

They keep a ton of road debris from spraying the side of your truck. Mudflaps help, but you will have more spray than the flaps can handle. I don't use them either to enter/exit the vehicle, but with all of the gravel around here it keeps the side doors paint from being chipped and exposed.

I actually have the tube steps and not the flat board that comes stock.

Useless for what they are made for...

but useful for keeping road spray, gravel, sand, rocks, from chipping your rocker panels. I just drove up to Reno and Virginia City over this 3 day weekend in the slush and snow. Lots of sand and gravel on roadway. When I got back, a hose under the stepboards blasted out chunkcs of stuff that would have otherwise peppered my rocker panels.

Same here. And in addition what the others have said, it keeps the truck a little cleaner.

I found my running boards useless so I removed them. Only took 6 bolts and I was done. I have an SR5 so do not know if the Limited's are a little more involved because of the lighting.

Sane mounts. The only difference is to unplug 4 wires.

My 5'2" wife that is the primary driver of our 4R has a set of running boards on her short list... She had them on the '99 and found them very usefull for getting in and out of the truck and wants a set on the new truck.

And of you guys that removed them want to get rid of them really cheap?

I do notice they keep snow off the sides. They are nice when you are putting stuff on the racks.

My wife is the primary driver, and at 8 months pregnant, she needs the running boards and the assist handles to get in and out.

Personally, I find them annoying. If I don't use them getting out my pants often find the dirt on them. If I do use them to save my pants, it is a bit awkward getting out. (I'm 6'1").

And the wife says they are really handy when she's wearing a skirt.

I find them useless as well, all they do is get in the way when its time to work under there. My pants are always striped about the calf. I just took them off and threw them in the backyard. If I ever put steps back on it, their gonna be rock slider something that is useful and structural.

.....sounds like there is a market for buying and selling running boards here.....I just bought a set of stainless steel tube bars for mine and should be here in a couple of days....I didn't have any running boards on mine when I bought my truck and it just doesn't look right without them....anyways, one question about the running boards with lights, would my truck have the plugs for the lighting or would I have to set that up separately?...it's cold and miserable here right now and I don't feel like crawling under my truck to find out just yet.....if some one has a set looking for a home let me know.....

No plugs used -- the wiring goes inside under the dash. Installation instructions are here.

....thanks for the info...nothing like NOT having to get cold to see if there was a wiring harness hiding underneath there.....I'll see how I like the look of the stainless steel tube bars first.....I might go for the running boards with lights if the right price comes along.....thanks once again!
