06 Sport Cupholder Lights?

Fairly new to me 06 Sport. Are there lights in the cupholders? Looks like there are in the lower front edge. Am I just way off or is this a thing?

There are but they're really dim. I'm thinking about wiring in some LEDs for that area and splice it off the original bulb's wiring.

I ordered the bulb off toyotapartsdeal.com and just replaced it in about 3 and a half minutes. You dont have to replace the entire pig tail cord, just pop the good bulb off the new part and pop it on the end of the existing pigtail under the console. Its one bulb for both lights. Not the cheapest at $10.69 plus $12.56 shipping but its OEM. But I had several other seals and bulbs and other items that I ordered at the same time so the shipping wasnt just for that one bulb.

Anyone know the part number for just the bulb? It would be nice just to replace with an LED and call it a day. I've replaced this entire assembly 4 times already. Not a pain but an inconvenience.

Good question... its a strange looking bulb to me. if you can find a replacement that would be nice... LED replacement=nicer.

You dont have to replace the pigtail assembly at all (which would be a pain, definitely).... the pigtail with new bulb you purchase doesnt have to be replaced at all... just the bulb...
just remove the console piece, reach in and twist to remove the socket from the cupholder, pull the old bulb out of the end of the pigtail socket and throw it away, pull the bulb out of the socket of the new piece you bought from the new pigtail put it in the existing pigtail and twist it back in, replace console... 3 minutes.

you have to remove the console center piece.. .there is a thread here with pics. I will see if I can find it. You never actually remove the cupholder, just the center console pieces to expose the light bulb pigtail.

You only need step one and two of that link, obviously.
After that you should be able to see the bulb socket in the middle of the back side of the cup holders.... I think teh socket just twists and removes and then you can pull the bulb out of the pig tail and replace it.

Thanks for the info. Any idea which one is "daylight" in those given options under the glove box bulb? It's either "cool" or "warm" and then colors.

Reviving a 3-yr-old thread.

This afternoon, I put LED bulbs in the shifter and the cupholder on my 4th gen. I took my time, and about 40 minutes start to finish.

The bulb for both the shifter and cupholder is a 74 LED bulb. I donÂ’t know the correct terminology, but it is also a T5 (socket?).

I bought a pack of six LED bulbs on Amazon for around $8. At least one bulb did not work.

When I replaced the shifter bulb, I loosened the large dark gray center piece, but did not remove it. I was too lazy to unplug the 6+ plugs attached to it. It wasnÂ’t hard to replace the bulb with the loose big piece, I just had to move it around a little.

Rather than detach the light socket from under the shifter housing, I just pulled the bulb up and out with needle nose pliers. The first LED I put in was bad, but thankfully the second one lit up. ItÂ’s very bright!

I didnÂ’t even know the cupholder had a light until I watched a video on youtube about the shifter light. I thought I had a bad bulb, but the LED didnÂ’t light up either. To remove the old bulb, I removed the bulb housing. The bulb points down, so I couldnÂ’t just pull it out. After looking around a little, I saw a plug that was unclipped. Luckily for me, it was the plug for the wire attached to the cupholder. I now have working cupholder lights!

I saved a lot of time by not detaching the big center piece. I took me less than a minute to put everything back together.

The video on youtube explained everything well, and I recommend it. The youtube user’s id is shocker. I did a search on “cup holder shift indicator 4runner led” and found it.
